Went based on the positive reviews. Last minute booking which they were able to fit us in on a Saturday night so things started on a positive note. Arrived and were taken downstairs to a nicely decorated but somewhat cramped seating area. When trying to decide on a wine for the evening I asked our server for recommendations as I am not familiar with the region's wines. She had no clue regarding any of the establishments wines, there were no descriptions of the wine beyond the producer, region and grape varietal, and was unable to make any suggestions , even after twice leaving the table to talk to the head waiter, who stood 20 feet away, and decided to not just to walk over to our table and assist. I was left to make a decision on my own and was disappointed in the wine we ended up with. 2 points..... A highly rated restaurant should have servers who are familiar with the products they are selling If they choose not to provide this service then perhaps a more descriptive wine list, flavours, Vintage year, dry or sweet, any critic reviews ect should be provided . The end result is that it created a frustrating experience that affected the rest of the night. That said we were looking past that and ordered 2 entrees to begin our evening. What has impressed us with our stay in Lisbon is the speed at which our food arrives once ordered. Unfortunately this was not the case here. From the time we arrived to when we were served our first course was 45 minutes and fully a half hour after ordering it. Was the food good......yes...no complaints with the food. Had kangaroo tartar, pork belly and salmon dishes. All fine but no wow factor . I guess I am disappointed because I was expecting so much more based on all the gushing reviews. A top restaurant should be more informative with every aspect of it's menu and speed of...

UNREAL !!!

Planning to celebrating my anniversary with my spouse somewhere else actually we want it to be fancy n nice dinning but we don’t get the place. And I found this Downunder in last mins .

FOOD : 10/10 Price : 9/10 Service: 10/10 Vibe : 9/10

Super hidden gems in Lisbon ! Our experience is ❤️ We choose to have table downstairs there’s a two table semi private in between column, we seat one of them. There’s two person giving service on this floor. One younger guy and one lady. Both are so polite and high service! When the younger guy came to our table every time was just a bit nervous maybe or lil bit afraid if he could make some mistakes. He need to chill a bit 🤗 but no complain about him. The lady seems more experienced of course, we never expect we got this high service (like you are in super high class dining restaurant). Service is just amazing!!

We ordered crocodile, kangaroo for me , steak for my husband and pavlova for dessert . Drinks : Bottle of water , glass of wine and mojito . Rate : I WANT IT MORE !!!! 100/10 Everything was so delicious 🤤 n I’m speechless . Details about the food ? No you all should come here n try it urself.

last but not least the chef it self Justin come to tables including us to greet and ask how is our experience. This is outstanding service so far in Lisbon restaurant based on my experience.

Wow! An absolutely exceptional experience. Firstly, our thanks to each chef in the kitchen who worked so diligently to accommodate both my wife’s & my own varied & individual dietary requirements within the context of the 8 course tasting menu, offering variations or complete changes to courses for both of us on what was clearly a set menu. When I apologised to Justin, who generously spent 10 mins with us discussing the outstanding food prepared, he merely said it was fun for the kitchen to have to create new flavour profiles on the spot! I don’t know if I believed him, but he is a very gracious, attentive and talented chef. Service from Miguel was exceptional, offering insight into each dish and making excellent wine recommendations along the way. He presented as both passionate & hugely enthusiastic about the wonderful dishes he served us. The meal was a very special occasion for us and was made all the more memorable for the wonderful experience we enjoyed at Downunder. Having eaten at a number of Michelin starred establishments, it represented exceptional value. The food & service already merits at least one star. I learned a little secret, so I know this place is going to blow-up soon, so book your table while you can! Where are you hiding Mr Michelin?!...

This is probably the best restaurant I have been to in recent times! The bread came warm and with an aromatised butter (truffle and olives). Then the crocodile salad, which was very exquisite, as it was the first time I tried crocodile. It tasted different but good. The kangaroo tartare was amazing! The meat was so good! Then the main dishes. It’s hard to decide which one was the best. The corvina was divinal! The crusty peel and the combination with the peas purée… Also, the Tom Yum chicken, with a great rice and a distinct flavour that made it fantastic. Moreover, the kangaroo steak was incredible, so tender and with very well cooked vegetables. Who would tell that kangaroo was this good! Finally, the pork belly, which was absolutely delicious. I recommend all the dishes, it will be hard not love them. To end, the chocolate and salty caramel tart, which is apparently an adaptation of the chef’s signature dessert. It was the best way to end this meal! I totally loved it! Overall, this is an incredible opportunity to try different dishes and meats! The experience was awesome, I totally recommend this place! It’s not expensive considering the current prices of restaurant and it’s totally worth it! The waiter was also super nice!

I have been living in Lisbon for almost 4 years and I regret not knowing about this amazing restaurant. I am a foodie, chef, and nutritionist, and I have dined in thousands of restaurants including many Mechlin stars and Mechlin guide restaurants. I would say this restaurant is on the list of my top 10 restaurants in Lisbon. If you are food enthusiastic, adventurous, and appreciate creative dishes, sauces, and spices, then you don't need to look further...this is your place. The food is infused with flavors from multiple cuisines. Australian, Asian, African, etc. Each dish is prepared with unique sauces and spices to bring it to perfection. Our order was: Appetizers: Pork Belly, Kangaroo pate, crocodile salad, and prawns. Mail course: Corvina fish and Kangaroo steak. All were amazing, and I would give them 10/10, except for the Kangaroo pate, I would give it 6/10 (this is just my opinion). The service was also amazing, our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable.
