Galvão — Restaurant in Lisbon

What a lovely restaurant! If you’re around the Jeronimos Monastery and feel hungry, instead of eating in one of the overcrowded restaurants filled with tourists down by the main road, just walk up the hill for 5 minutes and you will find Galvão on the left side. You will be amazed how quiet this place is compared to the loud main road. There are trees around the place surrounding the front yard where you can eat outside with bird sounds and watch the lovely church by the other side of the road. The owner speaks English and explains what each food on the menu exactly means. The menu is not large but that’s because everything is prepared fresh here. I enjoyed the Picanha Grelhada, which is very thinly sliced beef with baked potatoes and salad. The potatoes have a very delicious corn-like taste and everything is so well spiced. Prices are very reasonable and the owner is really kind. I totally recommend...

I believe we were interacting with the owner during our 3 visits and he is a paragon of Portuguese hospitality. The food is cooked in a very simple way but do not be fooled by the simple appearance, it is mighty tasty! The service is flawless, the gentleman remembered us and automatically brought wine and water to the table with a bright and sincere smile. The arroz with octopus (Arroz com pulvo) went on the newspaper in Sicily (Sicilians like my mom who was traveling with me can vouch for Galvao's octopus rice) for a reason 😁 I will definetely go back and I will highly highly highly recommend you all...

Pois a comida até poderá ser boa, mas não tive oportunidade de experimentar... Andava pela Ajuda quando pensando em almoçar, tive uma urgente vontade de ir ao Wc, motivada por cólicas repentinas decorrentes de doença crónica... Ao avistar este restaurante achei que ali poderia resolver as duas questões... Pois pura ilusão. Ao entrar no restaurante que se encontrava vazio, pelas 11h30, solicitei a utilização em primeiro lugar do Wc, logo o homem que ali se encontrava, embora de cara fechada e má vontade, acedeu. Ao aperceber-se que pretendia utilizar a sanita, veio logo a dizer que não podia, tendo constatado que se encontrava de porta fechada. Ao solicitar-lhe a utilização do Wc das senhoras, tendo em conta a necessidade urgente e grave em que me encontrava e que lhe foi explicada, tive como resposta "ah e tal não tenho nada a ver com isso" demonstrado desde logo, um péssimo sentimento de solidariedade humana. Embora insistindo a explicar que se tratava de uma situação de urgência repentina, apenas resultou em negações da parte do homem ... Não satisfeito, ainda tentou forçar-me, agarrando-me num braço na tentativa de me expulsar do estabelecimento... Óbviamente não almocei ali, nem irei referir o resultado da recusa que me impuseram...

Tem de ser dito: Atitude inqualificável, de uma falta de compreensão e até solidariedade humana a todos os títulos. O pedido que fiz em situação urgente e repentina, sendo certo que pretendia almoçar, em nada prejudicaria o restaurante que estava vazio. Não contem portanto com qualquer espécie de humanidade da parte...
