Review solely based on my most recent experience with the food. I ordered a ramen dish with shrimp that was so wrong I couldn’t eat it. The curry one.
I took one bite and realized I ordered it with the wrong noodle— soba noodles. The server suggested the other noodle, though I went with soba because it was listed as an option. I wish the server warned me that it is indeed an unpleasant dish in general. Because, whatever noodle would have not made up for the fact that the broth was unbalanced and not a broth at all— it was a heavy curry gravy.
Now, I’m trying to make it through the leftovers with the sauce drained off, and it’s still not good. I don’t know what happened to this place—the food used to be really good. Maybe a chef needs to do better quality assurance. I wouldn’t go here again in the meantime, or I’d probably just order the tonkatsu ramen via takeout from now on. I recommend KOPPU remove that curry broth soup off the menu. The texture and flavor was off no matter what noodle it comes with. Maybe the kitchen was having an off day, maybe it was a broth that was on the hot pot too long—that was the texture, when line cooks don’t pay attention. It was too thick to be a soup. I just wouldn’t take my chances eating there again for a while. It’s the worst meal I’ve had in a long time.
Other than this dish, this place was fine. My mate liked her vegetarian ramen. The eggplant appetizer was good. The lemonade was kind of different, though it was refreshing.
Also, I wasn’t thrilled with the QR code menu that didn’t work and the iPad menu. It’s lame these days for the prices they charge already for ramen. And being charged a service fee for paying with a credit card outside is also silly. The servers were nice though, I just think the owners and management needs to figure out their system better.
Update based on Koppu’s response: Koppu claims that the problem with my order was my fault because I ordered soba noodles which were a marked up option for the soup. Why even offer it as an option if you know it ruins the soup? Seems like the person responding is completely unhinged because if they tasted what I tasted last night, they would be apologizing and not blaming. Makes me never want to eat here again. As I suspected— it’s a greedy management problem. If Koppu really cared about the food, they would seek to understand what happened in the kitchen first instead of blaming the customer. In any case, no thanks. Too many good options in Lisbon to waste my time...
Read moreWell, I left Koppu Ramen right now and I want to share my experience. We arrived, sat down and basically waited about 30 minutes to be seen, it didn't start so well. Then we ordered two zero Coke, it wasn't cold and it didn't come with ice, we ordered two GWA BAO of different flavors to share (the first thing I EMPHASIZED was that I can't eat chives), each BAO comes with two mini BAOS , they came FULL of chives, I told them I had ordered no chives, the guy said he was wrong and simply left the table without fixing his mistake. he ordered the ramen and we got the wrong starters, my partner ate his part and I made sure not to touch my part, he was once again at our table to deliver the ramens, he saw that I didn't eat the starters and if you want to ask if something happened, why I didn't eat, the supposed responsible of the restaurant saw that I didn't eat and also didn't want to know (I think the turnover is more important than the satisfaction of the customers!). The ramen was not what I expected, the chachu was not soft, it was nervous and hard, the egg was not as well made as a ramen egg has to be, the dough was too soft in the broth, it wasn't even a dough fresh. The only good points of the ramen were that the broth was VERY hot, it was ok in flavor, and it really was spicy as it was supposed to. In short.. The starters I simply didn't try, the drink was hot, the ramen was hot and spicy, but super valued in terms of taste/quality, the service at the tables is simply POOR (the restaurant was not full, it's supposed that they captivate the few customers it has). I've worked in catering, I know how a table needs to be attended, I know how problems are solved, I know a drink can't be hot (unless it's a hot drink), anyway they charged the entrance fee that wasn't eaten, nothing was commented on the matter, I simply paid and left. PS. I see many good reviews, I don't understand why. I imagine that these people have never REALLY eaten a good Ramen, and an experience on a...
Read moreOur initial plan for this day didn‘t work out. And maybe this was the reason to get it all the better. Looking for some place to have lunch we came across the „Koppu Ramen" by chance. Well, it has been the digital adviser inside Google Maps which nudged us in this direction. We were looking for something Asian, preferably a delicious soup. The room is both cosy and stylish equipped of some sort. Right from the beginning the people there did take care of us in a way to make us comfortable. We got our table without a problem although there were a lot of reservations. The menu came as a website on a small tablet device and thus we scrolled through the offers of food and drinks, all with a photograph. (HINT: it is the same menu you can find at the webpage of this venue. So, if you are curious about what to expect, just visit koppu.pt) Since it is really hard to come to a decision if there are so many great looking offers, the waitress was very helpful. Her recommendation for the „TAN TAN MEN TONKOTSU RAMEN“, as „our best one“ was the best fit for me as it turned out. Before the main dish we ordered Edamame and my friend went for some pieces of duck breast and dumplings. We finished our lunch with „Chocolate and Matcha Tiramisu“, accompanied by coffee with cream. If not for the food (but this is without a question at all) we would certainly come back for the offers on the cocktail menu of Koppu Ramen. There are some creations which are sounding so amazing by description only that we‘ll have to try the one or another. If you like Asian food, well prepared and served as well as a cosy atmosphere and nice staff, you should give it a shot and stop by at...
