Miolo ruined breakfasts for me forever: I will never enjoy them the way I did at Miolo. Ever. We traveled all through Lisbon for multiple days in order to have breakfast here, it really was THAT good. The food is just amazing. Everything, from presentation to taste, is a 10 out of 10. The different types of bread are fluffy and rich of taste, it's almost cake-like. Smoothies and juices are freshly made, and delicious. Eggs are cooked to absolute perfection, and I generally don't even like egg. The coffie is solid as well, with enough varieties present. The service is... Spotty. It starts at the door; it was full every time we came, so we left our details... Only to see people that did so after us be seated earlier. And it can take forever for someone to take your order. One thing I do have to give the staff: the are incredibly friendly and hospitable, and the food is great, so I wouldn't want to be too harsh on them, it might just be inexperience. I would 100% recommend Miolo. I know I'll be back. A lot.

The place is really nice and the food well presented and rich. On the other side I had a negative experience at lunch... I read other reviews that said it has vegetarian options and they are able to make them vegan easily. I chose the quinoa without feta and greek yogurt dressing because they were out of the falafel plate (in fact 2 other non vegetarian options weren't available). The waitress wasn't helpful in making the plate vegan. I asked to make it vegan and she asked me confirmation if it was enough to take away the cheese and the yogurt dressing, as if she wasn't aware what was vegan in the plate and what wasn't. They also served a dressing that wasn't in the description and I found out that it was made of mustard and honey because it was in the description of another plate... Would have been better to write it and I would have asked not to have it since it isn't vegan.

This is a not so hidden gem that’s a perfect stop on your way to or from Mosteiros Jeronimos, or if you happen to find yourself in Belem and are looking for somewhere relaxed but still top quality for brunch. The staff are super friendly and welcoming, it’s really clean inside, the interior decor is beautiful (I especially loved the knitted/crocheted flowery blankets - so cute), and the food and drink is delicious. I had the eggs benedict and my partner had the pancakes, then we shared a huge slice of banana bread with caramel sauce drizzled on it. YUM. It was tough to decide what to order as there is lots of choice on the menu. The portion sizes were really generous, and the coffees and homemade lemonades were lovely. We booked a table to be on the safe side but there were plenty still available for walk ins. Will definitely return to Miolo whenever we are next in Belem!

I don’t understand the ratings here at all. Service was completely disjointed, with 2 waitresses coming up which created some minor mix ups. But overall one of the waitresses was super unpleasant from the start, doing the bare minimum.

However the problem started when we ordered poached eggs. We know how they are supposed to be done, with properly cooked whites and a runny yolk. However the whites were also raw and runny and we asked to get them properly cooked. The waitress replied that we didn’t ask for them to be done like that. But??? you expect the food to be cooked according to standard? And not to have to ask for the food to be properly cooked? We’ve had poached eggs in many different cities and many different countries in Europe. Plus my sister has a basic education and understands how food is cooked professionally and the basic standards. They did send it back except when they brought it back the eggs were completely hard boiled. And the waitress didn’t stop to ask us to check the eggs, she simply dropped off the food and immediately left.

At this point quite a bit of time has had passed and we were hungry, and the waitress was so unpleasant that we realized that sending it back to get a properly cooked poached eggs would involve quite a confrontation with the staff and we didn’t feel like fighting with them.

When we were done one waitress came by and asked if all was good and if we wanted to pay. I explained how we wanted the poached eggs well cooked and showed a photo of a proper poached egg (the whites firm, the yellows runny) to which she said that’s what we asked for. We explained that no, we asked for poached eggs properly cooked but she simply shrugged and left. I thought she went for the bill, but then the second waitress came by to ask us the same thing? We again said we wanted to pay and she sent us to the bar to pay. Understandable but why didn’t the first waitress say so?

Overall the food was alright. We had brunch every day for the past week and this was the worst least interesting brunch that we had. It wasn’t bad by any means but nowhere near 5 stars or deserving of a 4.8 rating. I was disappointed by not getting the poached eggs with our food and even more miffed by the service. Whoever had 5 star service for sure did not have these ladies as their wait staff. We were not particularly unpleasant customers, didn’t take too long to order and didn’t even ask for recommendations. But the staff was unpleasant from the get go and made 0 effort to deliver properly...

Drinks are awful and expensive (5€ for matcha with a veggie and half of it is ice 😭), there's no matcha by itself. Food is expensive for what it is but it tastes alright if you like beet.

The woman who seems to own the place is rude and condescending if you're portuguese, but she will be all smiles if you aren't and will not tell you if something costs extra. In the act of payment she will reveal herself if you question anything. Some employees don't speak english or portuguese and don't understand you well if it's not something you can point at in the menu...

Also they charge 2.5€ for the sauce in your meal if you ask for a different one that's in another menu and they won't tell you.

I've seen from other reviews how they always have an excuse and reply with a heart, I guarantee there's no love coming from them if it's the same woman working there. They charge 10€ or more for toasts with some veggies or salmon slapped on them and get tons of tourists daily eating there and yet they call themselves a "small business"...

Pure greed.

Edit for the reply: It is ridiculous how a truthful review is considered hateful in your eyes. Very funny how every positive review you have is either from someone who doesn't mind overpaying (which makes you act nice), is doing it for the sake of posting a picture, or is plainly gullible.

Your claim about that rude woman going "above and beyond" is hilarious, João is a saint for putting up with her. Perhaps you misunderstood that it wasn't extra sauce, it was a request for the same meal with the sauces switched.

It's crazy how you don't acknowledge that the majority of your clients are there because your place is right next to the well known Pastéis de Belém spot. Indeed in some of your reviews you are criticized for not letting people eat them in your restaurant (which is reasonable, yet it proves that it's the reason they are in your establishment anyway).

My criticism is constructive in the way that you shouldn't talk down to anyone, high prices aren't the issue, the attitude is. When paired, high prices and bad attitude leads to...
