Nice hole in the wall for some Portuguese food.
[The place] is extremely crowded, overfitting way too many customer than the place can host. We couldn’t even get out of our seat before new customers block our exit out of the table with additional table/chair. You cannot maneuver much once you are seated
[service] for the amount of customers that host, Id say they are pretty serviceable and friendly. But not the patient type to explain the menu. They expect you to know what you want and then take the menu off your hands for the next customer
[food] it’s a hit or miss. Most people came here for the fish. We opt for the meat. The best dish in the table was the lamb chop. All the rest of them were so-so at best. I do have to give a shout out to the potatoes that came with the steak. They were the highlight of this meal. The chicken curry, beef stew we’re okay, not great. I wouldn’t recommend the clam appetizer. Some other customer reviewed saying they were swimming in olive oil. I’d say they were drowning in olive oil. Save the money and just go for the dishes.
[bread/butter] gotta pay extra for those even though they were on the table. Make sure you know what you are paying for before your hungry eyes and hands go for it. Just politely ask them to remove from the table if you...
Read moreMy friends Fiona, Julie and I had dinner at this very local traditional restaurant last night. It's got a warm charm feeling to it, with a small number of tables and very cosy. The food was excellent, big portions and delicious, and all was done and presented really nicely. We had two different cod dishes cooked in the oven, both as tasty, and a grilled octopus that was very tender and full of flavour, with a beautiful roasted green peppers and onions salad. Our waiter, lovely Hugo, engaged with us very well and we enjoyed his recommendations and interaction sharing jokes throughout. He was super friendly and even joined us for a little quick game at the table after dinner. We shared a dessert and drank an excellent porto wine that had a scent of oak and made it very balanced and tastier than any other we tried before. We absolutely enjoyed the service, the food and the atmosphere and highly recommend it as a 'must' in Belem neighbourhood. It's also just next to the famous 'Pastel de Belem' bakery. When back to Lisbon, we'll repeat the visit. Thank you, Hugo! Julie,...
Read moreUnfortunately we received poor service due to lack of staff. We waited over 30 mins for a table, despite there being tables for two empty in the restaurant. There were no bookings, just two larger groups in front of us. Once seated our orders were taken quickly however that is where fast service stopped. Both starters and mains took a long time to come out to the table. The poor couple next to us only ordered omelette and chips and they waited forever. We were paid no attention after ordering. Getting extra drinks was very difficult. Paying for food for a long process as well after they added couvert items that we didn’t have.
The food was good but not good enough to excuse the wait time. Staff were friendly but just overwhelmed and did not multitask at all so we’re running back and forth.
From the rating on here and the mentions in lonely planet I expected...
