Is Pomme worth the hype? Undecided. We arrived at 8:30 for a walk-in and were sat quickly without a reservation. For a restaurant that garners a lot of noise, it fails to truly dazzle.
Service was alright - noone was particularly warm or informative - our waitress seemed indifferent to the menu and lacked any true expertise or opinions about the offerings.
At 8:30 pm, already 80% of the food menu was unavailable - a seemingly innocuous inconvenience - but when you consider the fact that Pomme is meant to be open until midnight, this seems like a significant error on their part.
All of the most exciting options were sold our (namely the potato mille feulle witj anchovies) - I’d be willing to give Pomme a shot at redemption for this dish.
With slim pickings, we ordered the french fries, octopus carpaccio, tomato & avocado salad, grilled prawns, and chicken kyiv.
Firstly, the fries arrived cold. Extremely disappointing considering they’re an incredibly quick and easy item to maintain at the proper temperature. Undersalted, and wholely underwhelming. Fries don’t have to be revolutionary, but when you’re charging 5€ for them, they shouldn’t leave me wishing for the ones from McDonalds instead.
The octopus carpaccio was well-seasoned, but entirely forgettable. The portion was meagre, but the presentation was divine.
Grilled prawns - small portions, and severely overcooked. Texture was rubbery and uninspiring.
Tomato & cucumber salad nearly brushed against great. Maybe the only truly memorable thing we ate. Tahini dressing was creamy, such a treat with perfectly-ripe avocados and chili crisp on the cucumbers.
Chicken kyiv - it sat on a gorgeous bed of mashed potatoes, however the chicken itself (what’s meant to be the main attraction) was disappointing - dry, under-seasoned, and likely overcooked.
Overall, Pomme was a weak and forgettable experience. Wouldn’t confidently recommend to anyone looking for a dining experience that they’ll be satisfied with.
Pricing feels fair - for three people, three glasses of wine, and five dishes - everything came out to 33€. In Lisbon, this feels alright. However, there are better places to...
Read moreI really wanted to give this place a good review, but I’m afraid I can’t - but I hope the staff take this as feedback because I would love to come back and be more impressed. First of all the people were nice, I like the space and the vibe, and most of the food was delicious. We got the chicken lollipops which were amazing and the octopus carpaccio and croquettes were great too. Sadly, the fried calamari was bad. It was very tough and was only a bit warm when it came, which makes me think it was over cooked and maybe sat around for a bit before getting served, which was odd because it came very quickly after ordering. Another thing I didn’t love is that we got four small plates to share between the two of us and they gave us all the plates at the same time, which some might like but I didn’t. The table was packed and some food was getting cold by the end of it because we had too much to eat at a single time. I think the server should bring maybe two at a time and try to pair them nicely, as is pretty common at these types of sharing restaurants. Finally, just an odd occurrence which I hope is not very common, but part way through the meal one of the staff came out from the kitchen (with a plate of food that was not on the menu) and sat down and ate at the table next to us. I was a bit confused because I’d never seen that happen before. Especially since it was 8pm, prime dinner time, and the place was full. I could see people getting turned away at the door, who I imagine would’ve been upset if they knew that a staff member was occupying a table (and eating food not available to the customers). I’m no stickler for tradition or professionalism, but it did make me feel like they maybe don’t treat the customers like they should. I hope that was just a one time thing though. Like I said, I loved most of the food and liked the place and the people, so I mean no disrespect, and I would love to come back some day...
Read moreReally really wanted to like this place. I mean the atmosphere is sweet and in a nice location, just the food and service was lacking really really hard. My girlfriend and I got there and the whole middle section was empty and the lady kindly sat us. We were super excited to try the wines and food so we went ahead and ordered the toast, gazpacho, a burger, fries, and some wine. Toast came out and was delicious. Then the wine came, the bottle was almost empty and the lady poured me the rest of the bottle and it wasn’t near enough for a pour what so ever. By this time the other tables next to us were filling up and everyone was getting their food. Finally our fries came which sadly were not as advertised, barely any Parmesan cheese at all and a little squirt of aoli underneath ALL the fries so you couldn’t even use it, and tasted like mediocre McDonalds fries. So now everyone around us is getting food left and right and people who sat down after us got their gazpacho, and all their food. We were waiting for awhile and then our burger came. I really wanted to like this but sadly enough, the burger came out really cold, and just not as expected for a single burger for €14!!!! Then after 10 minutes our gazpacho came. The “shrimp” they give you is the tiniest little thing ever with no meat at all. The gazpacho itself too just wasn’t flavorful. I love trying new restaurants and this just wasn’t it. The food was very very mediocre at most, for a pretty hefty price with small portions, the bill came out to be 45 euro. Not bad at all just not for the quality of food. This is more of a wine bar and should stick to just being a wine bar. Now this is just my experience, I’m sure other people have great experiences. Just is very sad that it turned...
