To be fair, this review would have been a 3 star because the food was 'just okay'. Let me dive in though, the soup was okay but barely warm. I ordered the hamburger, it was colder than the soup, and missing a basic quality that every other place provides - a bun. The icing on the cake was the waiter. At the end of the meal he took out a folded piece of paper that contained other scribbles from the day with a number - this was the total we owed. Ok, fine. He then continues to repeatedly tell us that service is not included and that it should be paid in CASH - for clarity the meal was paid for by card. After repeating this 3 times I was still okay to leave a tip, but after the 7th time, yes you read that right, I took out my Google translater to inform him that being pushy doesn't work. Upon reading this on my phone he walked away. TOURIST TRAP, EXPENSIVE for comparable meals, average food, and average or lesser...
Read moreI got to LX factory early and there was not much open there so I found this place on google maps. I stood out as a young solo American- It’s very local with a lot of older people that seem to be regulars here. The staff was friendly and helpful, making recommendations. Beautiful pastries, I got a few to go and sat down for an early lunch. The waiter recommend the lunch special which was authentic chicken or spinach soup (I chose the chicken), bifana, with a drink (water or soda) and an espresso. Everything was good, the bread was so fresh and the meat on the bifana flavorful. 11 Euro for the entire lunch special and 2...
Read moreThis is my favourite kind of place. A fantastic bakery inside, heaving with locals buying their Easter cakes and outside a patio where you can have a casual but excellent meal (see the prawn & squid espetadas in the photo - far too much to eat). It’s on a slightly busy road - the odd tram hurtling by - but don’t let that put you off. The prices are very good, but watch out for the extras - the delicious warm bread and pates that come with the meal are not free (but that seems to be standard practice in Lisbon). Sitting here on a sunny day was one of the highlights of our few...
