From the moment I made my reservation at Sud Lisboa, I felt an incredible level of care and hospitality—even from thousands of miles away in Chicago. Booking online a month in advance was seamless, and their responsiveness made me feel truly special leading up to my visit.
When I arrived, I was warmly greeted by the host staff, setting the tone for an unforgettable evening. Dining solo for my 30th birthday, I asked if I could have a couple of photos taken, and they were not only kind about it but even encouraged me to ask for more if I wanted. Daniela was especially welcoming, warm, and attentive, ensuring that my request for a more intimate table was honored. The setting was perfect—right by the window, offering a stunning view of the water and the entire restaurant. A lovely handwritten note on my napkin added an extra personal touch that made me smile.
My server, Rita, was outstanding—knowledgeable about the menu and incredibly intuitive, never rushing me and allowing me to order at my own pace. And then there was Catarina, the sommelier, who was simply exceptional. She was the most approachable, personable, and humorous wine expert I’ve ever encountered. Her thoughtful recommendations and attentive check-ins throughout my meal made me feel completely at home. In fact, the entire floor staff made me feel seen, heard, and genuinely cared for in a way I’ve never experienced before.
And the food? Absolutely phenomenal. I started with the vegetable salad, followed by the pan-seared sea bass—cooked to perfection with impeccable flavor and temperature. Catarina’s Portuguese wine pairings elevated each course beautifully, and the Vhils cocktail was a standout, offering a well-balanced, complex, and visually stunning experience. To top it all off, my meal ended with a birthday dessert, elegantly presented with ‘Happy Birthday’ written across the plate.
As someone who has worked in food, beverage, and hospitality for the past decade, I can confidently say this was the best service I’ve ever received. Coming all the way from Chicago, I couldn’t have asked for a more perfect place to celebrate my milestone birthday. This was an experience I’ll cherish forever, and there’s nowhere else I would have...
Read moreSUD Lisboa is where the previous Piazza Di Mare once stood. Piazza Di Mare was one of my favorite restaurants in Lisbon so I was extremely worried when it started its transformation into SUD Lisboa but I was present in the inauguration of this restaurant and it EXCEEDED ALL my expectations. The restaurant is beautiful and located just in front of the river with plenty parking spaces (no cost) and can easily be reached. The decoration is absolutely classy, modern, stylish, everything thrown and mixed together to give it a unique and amazing style, it is gorgeous! To make things even better, the food is excellent and the prices are fair, so no overpriced tourist trap, here you can find anything from eating amazing 8-15 euro meals all the way up the ranks of the more expensive foods and wines, you can experience all, and you will end up leaving with a full stomach and pleased. The restaurant has three areas. There is an inner area that is cooled (air conditioned for you heat haters), then a covered patio type area, that is not air conditioned but plenty of ventilation due to open doors that lead to the outside patio area. All of the three have views to the river. As an appetizer I took the meat carpaccio. It looked so amazing that I forgot to take a picture of it. It tasted fantastic. Then, since I did not have a pizza for long, I took one. This restaurant is not a dedicated Pizzeria, you can eat all sorts of food but by the Gods was this Pizza fantastic! My wife is Italian and I have been around Napoli plenty, and this is as close as it can get for being outside of Napoli, it is great. You will not be disappointed! Learning from the previous mistake of not taking a picture of the Carpaccio, here I took one this time. If you go to Lisbon, you must go here! The service was excellent of course as in I assume 99% of Portuguese restaurants. The menu is digital, heck, and as soon as you reach the door to the luxury yacht spaceship bathroom (at least if feels like that), you will note that this restaurant is unique! Oh, and it is not just a restaurant, it even has swimming pool upstairs that you can enjoy!!! Enjoy it here ladies and gentlemen! You won't be...
Read moreI had planned a surprise dinner for my partner and asked for two things to be done. I specifically asked that welcome drinks be brought to our table without asking (had chose the drinks beforehand) and that the bill never come to the table so my partner didn’t try to pay.
When I arrived I had to wait for my table even though we had a reservation and the restaurant was pretty empty. This wasn’t a huge deal at all, we were walked to our table that was situated near the patio. We waited about 20 mins for our server and the server asked about bread and water. We got bread and water and still didn’t receive our drinks.
Another server had come over 20 mins after that and I finally asked about the two drinks that were supposed to be at the table (my partner went to the bathroom so I could talk to them). The server had no idea about the request for the drinks beforehand. Anyway, the drinks took about 20 mins as well.
We finally ordered our appetizers and they were great - again took a while before we could flag a server down for anything.
We got our mains, while delicious, I had to wait 20 mins again to find someone to order my wine. I have never had such horrendous service.
At the end, had a different person asking me about the bill and bringing it to the table even though I had said no. Visibly annoyed, I asked the server if they were able take the bill as we weren’t ready to pay yet and then I had to explain that we wanted dessert and that the bill isn’t supposed to come to the table. SUD offers a service in which you can pay through a link on WhatsApp and that was discussed over the phone.. but somehow that was also not relayed to the multiple people we had to deal with throughout the night.
Overall, when you’re spending over €200, you expect a certain level of service. I wish I had spoken up while at the restaurant but I was...
