I popped into Páteo Café on a sunny weekday, and it quickly became one of my favourite Lisbon finds. Stepping into the leafy courtyard, I was greeted by warm, friendly faces and a relaxed, casual-chic atmosphere that begged me to sit and stay awhile.

I tried the hummus and fish dishes first — everything felt fresh and homemade, really showing off Portuguese flavours. Beautiful little cafe in the middle of a hidden alley in Belem. Our friend who lives in Lisbon recommended this to us and we decided to eat there for a casual birthday lunch with kids. The alleyway was perfect for kids to run around and explore, and the owners were so kind and sweet. Food was fresh and delicious. Excellent place, with the most wonderful attention. The owners are the waiters and cookers also, they're humble and considered. We ate very well and tasty food, things such as Spanish gazpacho, a varied selection of local cheeses, eggs with asparagus and a toast with mozzarella and parsley. In the end, because of the rain, they moved us to a stall in front of the bar and we were there drinking slowly our bottle of wine with all the peace of this world... Will come back...
