We attended the “Sextas na Adega” (Fridays at the Winery) event on Friday evening, and it was a wonderful experience. David and Catarina, the winery owners and creators, are great hosts, and they make this event and the visit to the winery very enjoyable, informative, and fun at the same time. The wines were spectacular, and so were the “petiscos” (snacks) that went with it. All locally sourced products, starting of course from the delicious wines. David and Catarina have their hands and expertise literally in all the steps of the wine-making process, from the selection and harvesting of grapes up to the sealing of the bottles!
We highly recommend visiting this urban winery, perfectly located at walking distance from Belem’s other major attractions. Take it as an occasion to relax, sip excellent wines and learn about them, and spend time in the nice company of the creators of this innovative project. David and Catarina are fluent in several languages (among which Portuguese, English, French, and German), and you may leave the winery not only with good wine ;) but also with unique insights on the area and on life in Lisbon and Portugal more broadly!
Look forward to visiting again very...
Read moreDavid and Cat are such a lovely couple that have constructed Adega Belem with such love (e uvas também). I brought my wife here for her birthday to go on the wine cellar tour and it was an absolutely lovely time!
David is someone very passionate about wine , it’s processes, it’s history , and also to make fun on the snobbery. He was the one that lead the tour and was engaging, funny, and just purely excited the entire time. After the tour , we tasted 5 wines - each which were unique - and David and Cat explained them each to us. They even brought out a bottle of their “mistake” espumante , to cheers for my wife’s birthday and a bridal shower going on at the same time. It made it all the more funny that David called it their mistake batch.
You can certainly tell that their wine has a lot of character and is not an average commercial wine (which we usually drink from Pingo Doce 😛) To top it all off - the adega is very cute - with painting made by their children , the wine labels are all drawings from their children- it’s that final touch that makes you feel you’re in a loving winery
We will be back with friends for your Friday night quiz nights.
Thank you very much...
Read moreAdega Belem Urban Winery exceeded all our expectations. We wanted to taste a local Portuguese wine but didn’t want to travel from Lisbon area. For a young winery the tasting was excellent. We enjoyed each of the wines we tried. The location - so easy to get there, close to the attractions of Belem. The personal experience - every facet of production from picking the grapes to bottling and labeling is lovingly explained and demonstrated and completely done by Catarina and David. The family importance - while we are adults I loved the inclusion of availability of including children, and family is obviously important to them. The customization - I asked if vegetarian options were available for the light meal we requested. Education - while we love wines we are novices and the detailed information for the entire process of wine making, and for starting such an endeavor we’re informative and so interesting. This visit was not only a great wine tour and tasting, but a really great travel experience. If you are in Belem for the day, book a wine tour. You will be...
