Belated review. Visiting the Algarve last Summer (Carvoeiro) I asked a few friends for recommendations on somewhere to rent a road bike. I wanted a decent bike so as to get some good rides in the local hills and mountains, and someone recommended Velochique. I couldn't have been happier with the service and experience. Firstly the owner Lee is an absolute gent. Not only did he drop the bike off to me in Carvoeiro but he also invited me along to join the weekly ride he and some others go on (circa 100km with circa 1,200m climbing - exactly what I was looking for). So I essentially got my ride in but with a guide and great company for the 4-5 hours. Secondly, the bike was class. No old and heavy bike, but rather an almost new Trek Emonda with Ultegra components, carbon wheels and disc brakes for a really great price. Thirdly, not only does Velochique rent bikes but it's also a cafe/restaurant, so after stopping there for a snack on our ride, the next day I drove the family back for lunch and it was highly enjoyable. So if you're into your bikes and want a decent rental I highly recommend Velochique. And likewise if you just like good food in a pleasant location up...

We love this place but I have to say today we were disappointed today for the first time. My wife and I ordered the vegan burgers for lunch but they were very soft almost like pate'. I would have loved a firm grilled burger like ' No Meat ' or ' Quorn ' or even ' Linda McCartney '. This was nothing like any of those it was like bean paste with a pea or sweetcorn in it. The surprise was that the food here is usually so good. I have to say that even the bun was a bit Mickey mouse as it was bright yellow and not appetising. In my opinion a rustic whole wheat bun with a firm grilled burger with some onions and hint of smoke with a homemade pickle or tomato sauce would be heaven. I can't understand why this was so poor. It is not difficult to make a good vegan burger. And as I already stated the food here is usually so good. The service is good. The ambiance is good. It is in a great location. But I hope that the standard of burger improves. Sorry to have to give you a poor review. But if someone doesn't complain it will continue and you will loose your vegan customers. Vegans like good foods the same as...

Lovely, relaxing, & modern cafe ambiance, perfect for coffee, breakfast, or lunch. What a great find! I was not expecting to find such a relaxing modern café (with decent coffee no less) in this little old village on top of the hill. I didn’t get to try the lunch menu, but I tried their açaí bowl, breakfast burrito, and the duck pie, which were all very good. However, I wished they had served the duck pie heated, would have been much better. Oh, and there is a bike shop as well, hence the name :)

I’m not sure why they are categorized as a restaurant but this place is more like a really nice coffee shop that serves food, in fact, probably the best coffee you’d find in this village.

Note to the owner: Velochique didn’t come up when I did a search for coffee on Google maps, I would suggest changing the category, you’d get so much more business since you’re only open for breakfast &...

What a fantastic surprise! We’ve been doing the Portimao to Monchique cycle for years and always stuck to the same cafe once we got to the top of the climb. We missed our cycling trip in 2020 thanks to COVID, but that didn’t stop others. Velochique has been open a year and does exactly what it says on the tin: cycle, coffee, food, relax! Even if you aren’t a cyclist, this is a great spot to stop off before seeing the village. I was particularly thrilled to find somewhere that serves lacto-free lattes! Menu has a small bit original range that would cater for most, from super healthy salads to comfort grub. Staff are quiet but efficient. Setting is equally amenable whether you dine indoors or out. And if you do happen to be a cycling fan, they have a service and rentals desk. Chapeau!

While Velochique may have its appeal as a biker stopover, our dining experience left much to be desired. Despite hopes of enjoying a satisfying meal, we found the food to be lackluster at best. Disappointingly, the service was also a significant letdown. We felt rushed and pressured as staff began clearing plates before we had finished eating, creating an uncomfortable dining atmosphere. While the establishment may cater well to bikers, for those seeking a more leisurely and enjoyable dining experience, Velochique may not meet expectations. Overall, our visit fell short of what we had hoped for in terms of both cuisine and service.
