Miradouro da Serra — Hotel in Monchique

I stayed in Monchique, 3 nights in late May 2014.||||This guest house is centrally located in Monchique, about 8 minutes walk, uphill, from the bus stop. It's a good location if you are using public transport and want to stay in Monchique village itself. It's not well signed, so you need a map to find it.|||| It's a very basic, old fashioned guest house.|||| You enter through an anonymous door right by a grocery store. You enter by first pressing a buzzer, that lets you into a dark lobby, tiled with azulejos.|||| The twin room, was rather small, but spotlessly clean, with a tiled floor, and a bathroom with shiny white and turquouise tiles. One or two tiles where chipped, and mended in an amateuris way, rather charming.|||| I had booked a room with a view, and the view was absolutely lovely.|||| That said, the room was in fact very basic and sparsely furnished. For instance, no luggage rack, and no chair, and a wardrobe with only 2 hangers. For a single person in a twin room, this was Ok, you can use the other bed to put your luggage, but for 2 people, it would have been a bit crowded.|||| The bed, was good, but a little hard for my preference. Good bed furnishiings for the climate.|| || The room was 2 fligths up from the entrance, with no lift. |||| The Wifi was WAP encrypted, with password on the actual WiFi and it worked excellently in my room.|||| I was staying during what is obvously low season in Monchique, with very few guests in the guest house and Monchique in general. Also, while I was there, most of the other rooms, and maybe other areas, were being renovated. Therefore, I hesitate a little to continue reviewing, because some of the following might be on account of that, and might well be improved later in the season and when they have finished their renovations.|||| The staff, or rather, the Landlady, and one maid, knew hardly any English. They did not even know the basic words for handling the checkin. Somehow, we managed to communicate.|||| They require you to pay your whole stay in advance. In cash. They take no form of credit card at all. The nearest ATM is about 10 minutes walk away, by the church. |||| In general, they did not seem all that service minded. It takes a long time to claim someone's attention.|| They keep your passport for a couple of hours on arrival, instead of simply taking a copy, or having guests fill in those details by themselves. || In the morning, although they say breakfast is from 8 onwards, arriving one day at about 8:30, it took about 15 minutes for the landlady to start getting breakfast ready.|||| The breakfast, is not a buffet, but a single breakfast with no choice. That said, what was, was good quality, 2 good rolls, with ham and cheese, and an orange.|||| When using the shower, one needed to run the hot water tap for about 5 minutes to get hot water.|||| The information on the booking site is very general, and not correct for all the rooms. They were just added to Booking.com, so maybe they didn't get it right the first time.||||All this said, I had a good stay. The place is basic, but OK. Might be better in high season, but I cannot tell. ||||It is definitely good value for the price!|||| However, if I stayed in Monchique again, I would at least investigate whether I could find something else, in the...

Avevamo scelto questo hotel come punto d’appoggio per la notte in cui abbiamo viaggiato da Lisbona alle spiagge dell’Algarve, pensando che la deviazione nell’entroterra dalle spiagge valesse la pena, dato che andavamo a risparmiare abbastanza rispetto alle strutture sulla costa. In realtà l’unica strada per raggiungere Monchique è veramente troppo tortuosa e personalmente vale la pena spendere anche qualcosina di più e stare tranquillamente sulla costa. Tra l’altro la cittadina è piuttosto anonima, nonché tristissima. Il Miradouro da Serra è una struttura decadente, in cui il wifi prende solo nel corridoietto di ingresso e non anche nelle camere come da descrizione su Booking. Abbiamo pagato 45 euro per una doppia con bagno interno e aria condizionata, che lì per lì ci è sembrato poco venendo da Porto/Lisbona, ma nel proseguo del viaggio abbiamo pagato la stessa cifra per strutture che offrivano servizi di qualità nettamente più elevata. La colazione, compresa nei 45 euro, è veramente misera (latte/caffè, pane, prosciutto e formaggio). Parei no miradouro da serra por acaso, ao entrar o hall era escuro e com uma grande escada, o quarto 203 era ok, a casa de banho era pequena e antiga, o duche era muito pequeno, mas a água quentinha(principalmente nesta altura do ano compensava)... cama razoaveis, televisão apenas com 6 canais(TDT), atenção que no quarto 203 consegui sintonizar os 7 canais do TDT, mas confirmar se nos outros quartos tambem o fizeram, compreendo que, principalmente esta altura talvez nao justificasse, mas deveria ter mais canais, e a televisão tambem deveria ser maior(um monitor muito pequeno de computador), o aquecedor é razoavel, mas aconselho a por no máximo, senão passamos a noite cheio de frio, principalmente no inverno, que a vila de monchique é muito frio... pelo menos no quarto 203 o sinal de wi-fi não é muito forte, e ocasionalmente falha, mas é o suficiente para se navegar nos demais websites... a vista é fantástica, para a serra de monchique... a insonorização é fraca, ouve-se tudo o que se passa na rua...o pequeno-almoço é bom, bom café da manhã, pão mole e bom, com fiambre, queijo e manteiga, com laranja do algarve e bolachas... a simpatia da dona da residencial e da dona que prepara o pequeno almoço e limpeza dos quartos são impressionantes, extremamente simpáticas... Aconselho esta residencial para passar 2 ou 3 noites, e para quem queira ficar numa zona central de monchique sem preocupar com estacionamento etc... bom preço -...
