Adega Márruça — Restaurant in Nazaré

The owner of the restaurant started of being extremely friendly, chatty. He kept very skilfully pushing his own agenda right from the start. We ended up ordering things we didn't really want. We asked for one fish he recommended the fresh one instead. Twice the price. We asked for glass of wine. He didn't have the usual cheap house wine so instead he opened another but forgot to mention that it is the most expensive bottle of the most average wine you can get for your money in Nazaré. We were in the restaurant once before during lunch hour (nothing special but cheap enough). We didn't expect for the owner who recognized us straight away and knew we have moved to Nazarre permanently to bluntly rip us off. We are one of the locals now. When we confronted him with the price of the bill which was double the price of one of the best restaurants in Nazarre. He pretty much laughed in our face and made up a bill based on his sum that still didn't match the original bill we got to begin with. Complete scammer. The food wasn't bad but you get twice as good anywhere else. The service was good (he was trying really really hard). Then you get slapped with the bill and it all makes sense. Normally if a customer would ask about the price of the bill any business men should have a will to explain or apologize but he was rude...

The charcuterie plate was excellent but when we went to pay by card, the owner said that he didn't accept them. Everywhere in Portugal takes cards and when I suggested he should indicate this on the menu his reaction was very negative. A group next to us had some issues with their bill as well which agrees with some of the other reviews...

Local jem with no tourists. No english spoken but we understood each other. Our food was great - half chicken was melting in mouth, four mackerels were fresh out of water and simply grilled. All for a half price compared to restaurants...
