My family and I regularly stay at Praia Da Rocha and San Martino is one of the best Italian restaurants by the beach.
The pizzas are amazing. There is a good variety on offer, including Calzone and a stuffed crust variety. I ordered side salads with my pizzas because it added a cooling crunch to the meal.
None of us ordered the non-pizzas dishes so I cannot comment on those.
The restaurant offers a delicious starter comprising a dish of cold meat and cheese. This starter is served with bread. I would recommend this dish to groups of at least three as it is very large for a single person or couple. If you order this platter with pizza you may be too stuffed for the pizza!
Service at San Martino is good but I found the waiters did pass our table a bit too often to check on us.
Prices are good given the large portions. As somebody living in Ireland, the prices in general around the Algarve are not a shock...
Read moreI do not like to leave bad reviews, but this place deserves it. The restaurant was less than half full and we were seated quickly. The waitress was evidently having a bad day. We never saw a smile nor received a greeting. We just wanted something light, so we order carpaccio and a basket of onion rings with a couple of drinks. The carpaccio turned out to be dried beef from a jar. If this had been my first time ordering it, I would never order it again. We have ordered carpaccio many times before, veal, beef, tuna, salmon, and even buffalo. They didn't even come close. The onion rings were standard Burger King fare, made with minced onions. Meh. The waitress was no help, so we asked for the manager, who grudgingly removed the carpaccio. This place has a beautiful location and I guess that's what keeps them going. We paid and left most of the food and drinks to find something that lived up to...
Read moreI had the pizza dona sofia. They say it's Italian ham, but it's not, it's portuguese ham (cheaper) and i dont like it. Mozzarella di Buffalo? No, for sure it wasn't and if it was, the fact that they added it to the pizza before baking, and not after... i think Italian people could get a heart attack here or go amok, i don't know, I'm not Italian, but this was one of the worst pizzas of my life. Thick bread, totally soggy, way too much cheese and tomato... omg, nothing good about it! Horrible! Fortunately my generous boyfriend gave me his Italian fancesinha to eat (nothing italian about that either, but that's ok, since it's a francesinha!). Anyway, nice views, kind service. But please train the cooks! Or maybe they should rather prepare delicious Nepalese or Bangladesh, Pakistani or Indian food! Would have loved to have that instead...
