I'll start with the positives: Great, attentive service. Reasonable prices, and a cozy environment.
It's my first time here, unfortunately I must've gotten the one bad menu item they had - because their reviews are amazing. I went in on a day where their top sellers weren't in stock (unavailable). I wanted to try the steak but opted for the Bacalhau a Braga which is a cod dish sitting on potato chips. The tomato sauce & pickles were good, but the cod was mostly gelatinous & bony..I only got a few pieces of meat out of it after struggling with it. Also, there are too many chips, and a third of them were soggy underneath the fish & sauce so it was unappetizing.
I really hate to leave bad reviews, but that was my experience. I like to give everything the benefit of the doubt but I can't be dishonest. It's hapless because it's such a charming little place & the staff were nothing short of amazing. I felt very welcome..but ultimately, it's the food gets the hefty portion of the review (I gave them 5 stars for service & atmosphere). I am sure other menu items are delicious, but I wasn't able to try them. Sorry..I would definitely love to visit in the future &...
Read moreIf you do not know Porto, you should come to this place. Twice.
Excellent food, in a typical portuguese environment, a small taberna-alike restaurant (sits . Do not expect a fancy service, but wait for the food and comment only after eating. Costs are for "locals" - and if you are used to the more touristic areas of Porto you will be surprised with the difference (you can expect to have a meal for 10-15€ per person, depending on how much you... drink).
Why should you come twice? The first time to order one of the more "typical small dishes" from Portugal, available in the menu. First time in the restaurant, just go with a typical small dish (e.g. the francesinha or a specialty sandwich). The second time, because they have a set of typical portuguese dishes that you have to pre-order beforehand (2 days before). And at the end of your first meal, you will be discussing what will be the typical portuguese dish you will want to pre-order for the...
Read moreSometimes by pure luck you come across a true gem. In the outskirts of Porto, away from the crowds of tourists we found this little lovely out together restaurant. Typical local food, with an oven of wood and the best Francesinha I have eaten here in Porto. I am not an expert in francesinha, but from the ones I ate this was the best. Right size, Nice ratio of meat to bread sausage, and the sauce on the side which allows you to dictate how much you want of it, and avoids the soggy bread which do easily ruins the francesinha. Besides that the Picanha was tender and melted in your mouth and the Pics Pau had a beatiful taste. Highly recommend it if you ever go towards those...
