Awful experience at this restaurant! MY ADVICE: Plenty of other Italian places in the city. Save yourself the trouble and frustration. Pick another place to get your Italian fix.
I don't like to post negative reviews however there were just too many things gone wrong with our experience at this restaurant. We had specifically made the trek to Grigio because folks in our party wanted a break from Portugese/seafood and was craving Italian food, specifically pasta. Only upon trying to place our orders we were informed that no pastas were available for order that evening, only pizzas! i.e. half of their menu was not available for order. I get it if a dish or two is sold out/unavailable but half the menu?? The place wasn't busy so didn't warrant dished being sold out. After some discussion, our waitress said vegetarian lasagna was available. So we chose to stay as we were hungry, had taken time to walk to Grigio and didn't want to look for another place.
The vegetarian lasagna we were served was just plastered in melted cheese, to the point that even children said it was too much cheese for them and left it unfinished. We had also ordered several pizzas, one of which was the Funghi with wild mushrooms and truffle oil. Not a whiff of truffle on the pizza and nothing wild in the mushrooms either. I normally like and always order thin crust, however these were paper thin and simply mediocre toppings. We ordered water and was charged €2/person for a small bottle each. Our (non-water) drinks didn't come until after our meals arrived which was is the first time I've ever experienced drink orders arriving later than food. Adding further insult to injury, when we asked for our bill, we were told they could only take cash payments as their machines weren't working that evening!?! They informed us there's an ATM across the street if we needed. Our experience at this restaurant was the absolute low point of...
Read moreNice vibes…but beware.
I have dined at Grigio during the multiple times I have visited Porto. I typically order the same thing and it usually ranges from decent to very good.
However, I forgot that they are tricky. Upon being seated, they will bring a small basket of bread (three half slices of toast and a couple oversized thin crackers). They call this “Couvert”.
They will stand there with the bread and say something like “I have some bread for you” or “Would you like some bread?” They do not mention the charge of €3.50, but it is on the menu to order.
But typically, you have yet to look at the menu to see it on there by the time it is presented to you.
So who knows how many people have been fooled by this. Instead of letting people order a starter if they want, they are brought this bread by default.
During my most recent visit, I noticed a couple who picked up a tip left on their table because they were unaware of the charge when they got their final bill.
I will most likely never dine there again. But let this be a warning to those visiting Porto who decide to dine there. The pizza is good, but there is better in the area. My review is heavily weighted towards a 3 due to how they conduct...
Read moreIt looks like a high end Italien Restaurant once you enter the restaurant. The price is quiet high for what we experienced in Porto but we thought it was worth it since of the looks. Sadly the looks were so wrong! From 4 waiters only one could decently communicate in English with the rest left in more of a question trance after asking them anything. The wines were good but it is wines from Portugal which are good so hard to screw something up there. BUT coming to the worst part of the dinner experience! The pizza ... I mean how??? 12€ for a pizza that has toppings not even worth of a 5€ pizza; just horrible. The one star is okay since the wood stove and what it makes out of the pizza dough is quiet delicious but everything that goes on top of it isn't worth of something like that. I will stick to the weird and wicked places in Porto because they resemble the Porto culture with it's delicious foods but not this wanna be high end Italien Restaurant that just fails on everything except wine and pizza dough and that is just sad for the price and expectations we had!
