UPDATE 2023-07-20: Pedro dos Frangos for sure has the best roasted chicken at a reasonable price. And that is the reason we keep going back. Apparently, post pandemic, the restaurant's 2nd building cross the street at 223 is no longer open. The chicken & French Fries plate is now €13. The Mista salad is €4. The chicken, fries, and the salad were delicious. A half bottle of white wine cost €4, all reasonable. The only thing that was really overpriced was the price of those little pats of butter at €1.20 each! The service has always been attentive and prompt. 2018 ORIGINAL REVIEW: We visited Pedro dos Frango several times during our 3 months' stay in Porto on 2017. Charcoal fire roasted chicken was delicious with crispy skin, properly seasoned, juicy, and tender. The whole mackerel was grilled on charcoal and seasoned to perfection and served with boiled potato and sauteed greens. Chicken and French fries for two at 9.75€, you can't beat that. Mackerel plate was 6.50€. French fries were good, but on one of our visits, they were not crispy and a bit greasy. The restaurant has two locations right across from one another. Each has counter seating on the ground floor and 3 floors of the dining area. The dining room at 223 R. Do Bonjardim does not have much of atmosphere, however the 312 R. Do Bonjardim is newer and modern. The service was efficient and prompt!

Pedro Dos Frangos is a casual churrasqueira, or grill restaurant, with an extensive menu of Portuguese dishes with a focus on grilled chicken. My favorite dish was the Octopus Salad, in which huge octopus chunks were marinated in an acidic dressing with chopped onions and parsley. I also had the Codfish Balls, or fritters made of mashed cod and herbs, but the fritters were served cold and would have been much better fresh. The grilled chicken was juicy and nicely seasoned; and the Tripas a moda do Porto was a classic stew of slimy beef tripe cooked in a hearty, savory mixture of white beans, carrots, spicy sausage, and ham chunks. To go with everything, we had a basket of breadrolls and dense slices of corn bread, as well as a mixed salad of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and shredded carrots. Overall, the food here was delicious and came at an unbeatable value too!

I think one of server is a racist.. We've visited twice on our holiday. First time the server was very kind but second time, the young server, he got angry at us and ordered to go sit down when we went to the main server's table to pay. It was not like kindly asking, he had a really bad temper. We came from France so we didn't know the payment manner here in Portugal. There was absolutely nothing to get angry at us like this because we were standing far away from them staying silent. Also after he got our order, there were blond Dutch couple right next to our table. He was extremely kind with them explaining about portion of the food, the sauce and even recommending things. Lol We were like 'wow..OK that's nice of him'. We didn't expect that much of kindness but he didn't need to have that kind of manner to strangers like us. Probably because I'm Asian. Food was good but at the end our mood is totally ruined. Not gonna come back to Porto.

It's a very busy restaurant even on a weekday evening. Was immediately seated but waited maybe 10 mins to get a menu, another 15 mins to flag someone to take our order. Starter came out rather fast. But then, we saw customers get seated ordered and ate their food before our server realized...we still haven't gotten our mains. By that time it had been an hour since we sat down. Then he quickly punched it into the pos and food arrived within 10 mins. Food itself... Chicken gizzard was the best part, moist and doesn't have a gamey taste. Caldo Verde was passable. I had high expectations for tripe, but the dish only had 3 pieces of tripe, then rest were pork intestines, pork sausage and bacon, mixed with many many beans and maybe 3 slices of carrots. Chicken, which many come here for...was rather dry. Chicken skin was great, but the meat was awfully dry. Fries and rice were stone cold...so I ate only to write a review and left the rest.

Lost in delicious discovery! Our Porto adventure took a delightful turn when we stumbled upon Pedro dos Frangos. New to the city, we weren't sure what to expect. But from the first bite, we were hooked. The Frango Asado – peri peri chicken – was juicy and flavorful, a true crowd-pleaser. For the adventurous eaters, the Tripas a modo do Porto, stewed tripes with white beans, was a revelation. And the Bacalhau a moda de Braga, a regional take on codfish, was simply divine. But the star of the show might have been the Cabrito Stew – melt-in-your-mouth tender and bursting with savory goodness. Finding this gem by accident felt like a stroke of luck. The staff was friendly and helpful, adding to the warm atmosphere. If you're in Porto, don't miss this hidden treasure!
