If you visit Porto, I urge you to eat in a local spot and try authentic cuisine.
This was round the corner from our apartment and is probably as local we could have got when in Porto. This little canteen style restaurant was full and constantly busy with locals.
The staff are so friendly, and the service is quick, we did have to queue to get in, but it just meant I could stand and watch the chicken spinning over the flames. The restaurant won't break the bank and portions were big.
One thing with authentic Porto cuisine is that salad or veg are not traditionally part of the main meal, and you order a vegetable soup hot/cold or a salad to start
So to order, we had to try the pigs blood soup, and actually, it was tasty, almost like a cross between black pudding and haggis blitz with cream and stock. Is the only way I can describe the flavour.
We had a whole grilled chicken that was served with rice and chips and a Francesinha, which is a steak, ham, and cheese sandwich, served on top of fries with a peppery tomato sauce with a fried egg on top. I wasn't blown away, and maybe it was just me. Dont get me wrong, it was nice, and maybe i had high expectations of the famous sandwich, but we didn't get a chance to try any others anywhere else.
It's a small but busy place and a must try if you want to experience real Porto culture
For the portion sizes and our order with two soft drinks and a salad, we were just under 30€ we even had some left...
Read moreAfter having trouble finding decent priced and good food quality restaurants in Porto on a Sunday, we were so happy to be able to finally dine at Churrasqueira Lameiras during the week. The local ambiance, delicious food choices and unbeatable price were what we were looking for in Porto, not some touristic stuff… In fact it was so good that we went back three times in a row! One lunch and two dinners. Their grill chicken accompanied with rice and fries are a must try, so much flavor and the chicken was tender and juicy. Also the variety of starters at the entrance such as squid salade, pig ear salade were so delicious and fresh. We also tried many of their other dishes such as vegetable soup, steak and cod, none of them disappointed us. They also offered the dishes of the day outside of their menu. The staff were super nice and friendly, very helpful with explanations and recommendations of different local dishes they provided. If we had been there for a week we would have gone back everyday! I would totally give them 10...
Read moreI often pass this restaurant but never tried their food. 2 weeks ago, I decided to have lunch here and repeat 3 times a few days after. If you want to support a local business restaurant, you should go to this restaurant. It is an old family business serving local Portuguese food with economic prices.
Pros The location is strategic. It is in Rua Bonjardim behind metro station of Trindade in Porto. Entrance accessible for wheelchairs. They have 2 kinds of seating, by table or just sitting by the big table. I experienced eating at this kind of table in Barcelos. Economic prices with a good portion. Free WiFi accessible inside the restaurant. Payment can be in cash or multibanco. I ate pataniscas and it was good. You can choose to dine-in or take-away here.
Cons I bought roasted chicken but for me it did not have flavour. Inside seating with stone walls are difficult to...
