We've had a fantastic lunch in the Bird today. I found this place using Google (checking the reviews), searching for a place to have a late launch, in the area where we've spent most of our day today. It's a small restaurant offering two menus (fish or meat), with a very charming owner and daughter (I presume) who hosted us today. The daily menus change depending on the daily availability.
The place is decorated in an eclectic/romantic way, but the atmosphere is like you've walked into someone's home and you are eating lunch in their dining room. There were four of us; we ate two fish and meat menus. Each menu has the same soup (today was an excellent broccoli soup), and you can choose the dessert. We've had a lemon pie, a chocolate cake (with vanilla ice cream aside), and a caramel pie all four of us shared. We couldn't agree which dessert was the best :) The main fish meal was squids, made in a dark sauce similar to what we do in Croatia, with rice. The main meat meal was incredibly soft and tender beef and pork in a sauce with onions and beans, served with rice and salad. Besides the three-course meal, we've had a drink (some of us a glass of wine or some of us a lemonade). The price for all four of us was 66.30 euros.
This is definitely a place I would recommend. You will be well-hosted in the interesting decoration of the place, and you will eat...
Read moreCozy restaurant with great yard. However, we had a problem with ordering. We came in a group of 8 guys at 1.30 PM and they only had 6 portions, 7 small bottles of beer, no white wine and no soup. Moreover, it was on the edge of one’s efforts to find the toilet! Too-much-kind (almost ezoteric) waitress kept saying “Let me check” (…if we have this or that) and it became so notorious (she told it al least 10 times, also when we asked, if there is a cook) that I suggest rename "The Bird" to “Let me check”! To be fair, the waitress did her best to serve us, we, however, did not understand the bill, which was per person higher than offered menu (with soup) and we even had less food than 1 per person. But it was tasty, so she got a far-too-generous tip, so I think you should at least consider the...
Read moreNice runaway from busy beaches and streets, cozy and quiet place with welcoming porch and neetly designed interior.. the staff is friendly.
Food: very average, the fish i had was rather good but the soup and dessert felt sloppy, impersonal and lacked any kind of invention or personnal approach of the cook. Finaly the coffee was very poor, in 2020 you must offer a premium coffee blends with decent foam (for capuccino) anything less is worse than no coffee at all.
Conclusion: if this place learns to prepare more thorough cuisine with fresh herbs and the little touch of "i made this dish exclusively for you" it can easily become a local peril and a must visit. Sadly with the average cousine they offer now it isnt a place to visit unless you happen...
