Mini Eco Container — Restaurant in Santa Cruz

We had a flight cancelled and ended up being diverted via Madeira with a 5-hour layover. Thought we'd take the opportunity to get out into the island and have some lunch by the sea and stumbled across this place, which was perfect. The woman behind the bar couldn't have been more friendly and helpful, the food and drinks were great, especially the alheira, and the atmosphere was really relaxed with a spectacular view of the waves crashing in. Other than the name suggests, there was nothing "eco":  Drinks are served in plastic mugs; and - at the time of my visit - a noisy diesel generator was running nonstop, polluting the air on a seafront place directly at the promenade where people use to have sports and walkings. I am surprised how this can be allowed in 2024 and what the people of this beautiful island have to endure. I was impressed by pleasant atmosphere. The staff were very friendly, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Although I didn’t have a chance to try the food this time, I look forward to sampling it on my next visit.

I agree with other reviewers that it would be great to add more eco-friendly packaging and drinks to the menu—kombucha, oat milk cappuccino, fresh coconut water, etc. Other than that, the vibes were fantastic. I really enjoyed the view from the terrace and the music. Can’t wait to return and...
