One of the coziest and greatest restaurant experiences I have had in Portugal so far. And for the prices they have I have to give it five stars. I recently went twice with my partner and her parents who are Portuguese natives and they know a good restaurant when they experience one so we returned the day after our first visit.
I tried their fish soup, their vegetable soup, Lulinhas (that's smaller squid things for all English speakers out there) with fries as well as the tried and true test of any restaurant: Steak with cream sauce and fries.
Nailed it each and every time! Good flavor profile, good resources, good presentation, everything is cooked right and to order (The medium rare steak was medium... orders to replace fries with rice was no issue et. c.)
The price of the soups? Ballpark between 4-7 euro for a small-ish but sufficient bowl for a starter...like come on, what are you doing if you're grabbing a ready meal from intermarche instead of this? STOP... Take a seat, soak in the ambiance.. order a soup and some bread and ENJOY LIFE instead. Cost for main dishes are also cheap and good and they strike a good balance between being able to provide variety without becoming "masters of none". It's clearly focusing on traditional Portuguese restaurant food with strong Algarve influences... plenty of fish and seafood going on.
I digress...Bread was fresh, the details like the "red pesto butter" served on a neat little rock thing.. They're good at picking wine. Olives were fresh and seasoned nicely.
Music and ambiance is nice. And the place just looks nice! It has a nice attention to detail.
The people serving you as well as the owner give off excellent vibes in my humble opinion, sociable if you strike up conversation or ask questions, professional whenever you'd expect them to be. Responsive should you signal to pay your tab (I did twice).
Desserts were also on par with the rest of the courses... lots of almond/carob goodness... didn't have the time to try the ice-cream but I bet it's fantastic!
It's no Michelin three-star... then again most people probably wouldn't opt for a restaurant like that to begin with...I prefer places like this!... It's just a place that serves good food in great ambiance, they nail wine and drinks... they even have good non-alcoholic alternatives like Why Not Soda which is appreciated. Prices are also great... It's five stars from me!
Snag a seat during less busy hours for the optimal experience in my opinion... but if you're not as picky as me I'd say just go for it... this place is definitely worth it!
Next time I'm around these parts I'll return. That's...
Read moreWe stopped by this place based on its high Google rating. What we should have done is read the negative reviews from previous customers as well as the shady responses from the owners. They paint a truer picture of how this place operates and might have better prepared us for what we encountered.
We waited at the ‘Please wait to be seated’ sign, only to be willfully ignored by the short brunette waitress. We smiled at her, waved at her, but she looked us straight in the eye and ignored us on multiple occasions. At this point, the queue behind us was growing longer and longer. So we called out ‘excuse me’ to which she came over grumpily and said that there were no tables available. We asked her why she was ignoring all the people who were waiting patiently instead of communicating that no tables were available, and she again shrugged and rolled her eyes clearly, indicating that she didn't care for other people's time. We then asked her how long the wait would be for a table, and she just rolled her eyes and shrugged again. We realised that she was not going to be of any help or communicate in a respectful way, so we just walked away.
I have never experienced this in over 20 years of travel across the world. This behaviour is not just rudeness and arrogance. It is unkindness towards visitors who are just looking for a place to eat during their visit. It is completely unacceptable behaviour for people working in hospitality, no matter what your culture is.
To the foreign tourists reading this, do yourself a favour and avoid this place. Take your business to other places in Sagres where you will be welcomed with professionalism and offered a friendly service such as the Laundry Lounge. We went there without a reservation and they accommodated us with a smile. Throughout the night, no one was turned away, and they did their best to accommodate anyone without a reservation even though it was busy. The food was delicious too.
To the owners, don't bother with a sassy reply. Nothing you can say excuses your poor and disrespectful...

We were delighted to visit this wonderful family-owned restaurant, which has been passed down through generations—from the current owner’s grandfather. There’s a strong sense of history and tradition here, both in the atmosphere and in the food.
We started with the squid and macaroni fish soup, followed by a beautifully cooked beef dish—both absolutely delightful and full of rich, authentic flavor. The dishes felt lovingly prepared, with a deep connection to local culinary traditions.
The interior is a perfect blend of vintage charm and modern touches. We especially loved the classic old tiles, which gave the space character and a sense of place, while still feeling fresh and welcoming.
We came for lunch and paired our meal with a typical local wine from the region, which complemented the dishes perfectly.
This was a truly special experience—genuine hospitality, heartfelt food, and a setting that tells a story. Highly recommended for anyone wanting a taste of local...
