Restaurante Abrigo do Pescador — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was frustrating from start to finish. We waited far too long to be seated despite there being empty tables, and once we were finally seated, it felt like we were forgotten. The staff were inattentive and disorganized — we had to remind them multiple times just to get basic service.

To make matters worse, the menu was vague and unclear about portion sizes. As soon we realised that was a lot of food, we kindly ask for less, despite paying the same and they were not nice or polite, repeating that customers should know what they ask for. Transparency and communication were seriously lacking.

It’s unfortunate, because the place looked promising, but poor service and confusion around food just ruined it. I wouldn’t recommend it unless they make serious...

A bit weird and aggressive upsell techniques here, we sat down and immediately a waiter came over to the table with three bowls of starters and tried to give them to us - I doubt they were complimentary XD and then when we tried to order sardines (14€) he interrupted us to tell us that he only had three kinds of fish left - which I saw all cost between 35-50€. We explained we really only wanted sardines and started to get up to leave. Then he said "oh no wait we do have sardines"... And let us order them. The sardines were...

I really like the place it's local and off the tourist tracks... But maybe it's because I am a tourist and they saw that..... €12.50 for a sea bass which was great. But €4.50 for a small salad.. And €5 for a small potato for lunch time? Usually it's part of the menu I've seen and so assumed it was part of it...but I didn't speak enough Portuguese to argue and they didn't have a menu I could look back on to say it's wrong. Silly me, should have asked how much everything is..Place is good but watch out...
