Taberna do 16 — Restaurant in Vila Real de Santo António

The meal started with some bread, which was very dry and even had ants in it. We hadn’t asked for it, but later found it added to the bill, 10€, which felt excessive.

They offered tapas, but most of the options were fish-based, which didn’t suit us. We each opted for a main course instead: the steak, steak sandwich, and the steak with prawns. Unfortunately, that turned out to be a mistake. The steak in all three dishes seemed boiled rather than grilled or seared, making it bland and unappetizing. The fries were equally tasteless, and the prawns were completely overpowered by a watery, unpleasant “special sauce” that made the dish inedible.

We booked a table on the phone 7:30pm 14/2 - popped in to the restaurant 2 hours+ before to confirm the booking had been taken - yes, we were shown the table. Arrived at 7:30pm to find another couple on our table. Told all tables booked and nothing available inside - what is going on!!!??? Unbelievable service and clearly the staff need retraining. So, we spent our valentine night somewhere elsewhere

The restaurant was overcrowded the night we visited, likely above its capacity, which led to very poor service.

The food was fine overall, though the tuna was tasteless and the cheesecake was disappointing - it tasted more like condensed milk and heavy cream, without any real cheese flavor.

Service was extremely slow and disorganized. I ordered a glass of wine from three different waiters and never received it during the entire meal.

This place had been recommended to me, but I wouldn’t recommend it myself. It feels like it’s trying to be something it isn’t yet...
