Spanish concept, but with a Portuguese heart - Mood Lodging at JamonJamon in Óbidos.
This week we decided to pay a visit and have lunch at JamonJamon.
JamonJamon is not just another typical "tasca" or a restaurant with good food, it is a space for sharing, stories, family and friendship.
Since we entered we are welcomed with the biggest smile and friendliness that is not seen in many places. The entire team is very helpful, attentive and welcoming, always available to exchange a few words while having our meal, or simply to help with a good choice of wine, undoubtedly a vibrant space, with a lot of life and movement.
Each dish is made with love and pride, it can be seen in any dish or snack that comes out to the tables, which makes your mouth water.
The restaurant is very cozy and the interior environment that reminds us of the rustic old houses of our grandparents, super cozy and warmth for the heart.
With a sunny day, we decided to stay on the terrace, it has a beautiful view of the floodplains and the hillside.
The menu surprises by the combinations of flavors. As starters, we chose the corn and wheat bread made in the house's wood oven, to accompany with the olives and the spice and herbs butter, followed by a shrimp "à guilho" and a fried cuttlefish, the portions are quite generous, which is perfect to share.
As the main dish, we chose the "Lagareiros" Trio, a typical dish but with a variety of octopus, cuttlefish and codfish, delicious!
As we like to try a bit of everything, we can't go out without trying the desserts, quindim and a chocolate cake with ice cream, and of course to finish with the coffee, the "ginginha" from Óbidos has to pair with it.
JamonJamon is a reference in this village of Óbidos, from the professional, attentive and friendly staff, to the quality of the food, as well as the fantastic space with great decoration, peaceful and relaxed ambience.
We are very grateful to Andre Pontinha and to all his extraordinary team, we will certainly be...
Read moreExcellent food and service but with a few things to keep in mind.
Ja!mon Ja!mon was a great meal. The salads were fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced and honestly some of the best we’ve ever had.
The food overall was top quality, and the presentation was thoughtful without being overdone. Service was also a great. The staff was friendly, informative, and very accommodating with allergies, which we really appreciated.
The swordfish and sweet-and-sour salmon were both excellent. Cooked perfectly, well-seasoned, and paired with sides that showed just as much attention to detail. Every dish felt like it had real care behind it, and nothing was rushed or generic.
One thing to know: the codfish in a clay pot is a traditional Portuguese dish. It’s not made with fresh fish. The cod is cured in salt for over a year, which gives it a very salty flavor and a dense, gummy texture. This is not a problem with the restaurant it’s just how the dish is meant to be. That said, it may not be for everyone, and it’s worth asking questions before ordering if you’re unfamiliar with it.
Prices are on the higher side, especially for lunch, but the quality and service make it worthwhile.
Everyone at our table enjoyed their food, and we would absolutely return. This place is a great choice if you’re looking for elevated Portuguese cuisine and professional service in a...
Read moreOur initial lunch at Jamon Jamon was impressive. The tapas were a delightful treat, which encouraged us to book a table for dinner to explore their main dishes.
However, dinner took a disgusting turn when we found a used plaster among our prosciutto slices. Such an occurrence is inexcusable and gravely concerning. Although the staff acted swiftly and apologized, the manager's response was totally inadequate. His brief apology felt insincere. In addition, the sangria we ordered was inexplicably delayed.
We did not want to make a big case out of it in front of the other customers. However, the staff assured us they will make an important gesture of goodwill for the disgusting experience. Instead, the manager's offer was laughably minimal: a discount on bread and fries amounting to just 10 euros. His defense that it wasn't his fault, and that he couldn’t do more was really unprofessional. He was rude with his staff - stressing the fact that nowadays it is hard to find professional staff - who was nothing but warm and diligent throughout our dinner.
In essence, while the staff at Jamon Jamon works hard and is nice, the management's approach and the incident overshadowed our experience. If you're seeking a restaurant where hygiene and genuine customer care are paramount, I'd urge caution...
