I had a terrible experience at La Mar beach on their ladies day on Mondays. Service and staff attitude made this day one of the worst beach days I had in a long while. It started with rude and careless ‘welcome’ from the hostess desk. They literally do not care and even seem annoyed when you arrive. Then I had to fight to get a sunbed. No one cared to accommodate me until I had to start arguing with one of the stuff. Only then he made an effort to find a sunbed for me. Even though I made an early booking and particularly requested for a sunbed otherwise I wouldn’t even come. On the ladies day all the ladies get a complimentary spritzer. And all the previous times I had no problem getting it by the bar. Until this time… As usual I asked for a spritzer and a bartender said that they start serving it only at 4 pm. But 2 weeks in a row I was getting it on arrival. Idk, either stuff don’t communicate between themselves and don’t know their offers, or they just fool people around creating new rules on the go… Then I ordered my lunch and a drink from the happy hour menu as all the previous times. Before ordering I confirmed with a waiter that a happy hour had already started. When I almost finished my drink supervisor Khalid approached and told me that I would have to pay a regular price for my drinks because they discontinued happy hour today. I confirmed that it was a happy hour before ordering! It’s literally the same if you order your food from a menu and then asked to pay double because they just changed the prices! You can’t change your offers and rules on the go! After an argument he told me that I would have to pay a ‘happy hour’ price, but he was so rude and arrogant as if it was my mistake! No apologies were offered or any service recovery. Only after I asked to call a manager, Khalid started apologizing for ‘the inconvenience’. But still a manager didn’t come to talk to me. I still wanted to stay and order some more drinks and food and try to recover from my bad experiences. BUT! I was just presented with the bill which I didn’t ask for YET! It looked like they just wanted me to leave. So, I just gave up, paid and left. And I will never come back again. Last but not the least. The toilets and showers are awfully dirty and neglected. No toilet paper or hand towels, water and hair everywhere! Even a public toilet in the middle of the highway is cleaner than this one. My advice is to review your service, attitude and COMMUNICATION! However, when making profit takes precedence over customer service, it often leads to a disappointing experience.
1/ I used to come every weekend and stay in the cabana. However, this time I was told I would have to pay an additional 1800 QAR because "there is an event"—an event without an international DJ, by the way, but no problem. I was also informed I had to purchase a bottle of spirits (vodka/whisky) in 40-degree heat, which didn't make sense to me.
While we were there, I noticed at least four cabanas with just two people, and they didn't purchase a bottle of spirits. When I asked, they confirmed they didn’t need to buy one. No problem, but it's inconsistent.
2/We wanted to order food, but were told the menu was "very restricted because of the event." There were fewer than nine choices available, and most of them were meant for groups of six—obviously priced higher. We didn’t even feel like eating anymore (We were a couple)
3/We ordered a bottle of wine. Usually, I pay for everything before leaving, but this time I was told I had to pay immediately because it was "busy due to the event." I had to leave the pool just to pay, which was inconvenient.
4/I understand when you want to earn more, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of service. If you’re hosting an international DJ or special guest, I could understand changes in service or pricing—for the better, not worse. But when the same DJ comes every weekend and it’s called an “event,” it feels like a scam.
5/Finally, when I asked reception why none of these details were communicated through our mobiles, especially since you have our numbers from previous visits, I was told that “it’s on the website.” We checked, and it wasn’t. When we suggested they use Instagram to notify regular customers, the response was, "This is the best we can do." Really?
