Two of us ate off the specials menu, with average success. Nothing was bad, but also nothing stood-out. Some dishes were trying too hard (Zanzibar prawns) and the the salad had competing flavors as well. The Nike perch was in a sauce that needed salt, acid, and spice. Uninspiring. Macadamia tart was nice, but the trio of ice cream was a huge miss- 3 totally different flavors served in the same bowl and many bites had chunks of ice like fewer burn or not well combined. The cream coated the spoon in a way that didn’t want you diving back into the bowl for more. Service was nice, as were drinks, coffees and ambiance. Say by the pool but by sunset, felt buggy because the pool looked stagnant, rather than a pump moving it to keep it clean and mosquito clean. The top layer had that buggy film. My husband and I had a delicious meal with excellent service during our visit. Our server was accommodating and took great care to ensure we had a fantastic first meal in Kigali. The menu is unique and full of interesting flavor combinations. We opted to start with risotto balls and pasta dishes each for our entree. We then shared the lemongrass panna cotta (which was refreshing and flavorful) and sampled some banana beer and homemade Ginger ale. Service is top notch and we were even provided complementary tasting spoonfuls from the chef and warm, eucalyptus infused towels to wash our hands before the meal.
