Nyurah This is what dining should be like. Period.
We just finished having the most wonderful dining experience at Nyurah. We discovered the restaurant quite fortuitously, and walked over here from our hotel.
Don’t be fooled by the non-descript office building where it is located. Once you get to the floor where it is (mezzanine), you will be greeted by an inviting large format door that beckons you inside. The pleasant host staff seated us, and that’s when we paused to take in the meticulously crafted decor that was not overdone—but revealed lines of symmetry that brought both ends of the dining room together.
Now about the food. If I could give it 6 stars, I would have. The salad I had for starters was amazing. Who would have thought that julienne-cut green beans with broccoli spears and grape tomatoes would be so flavor-rich?!
My main course (pictured) had some of the most tender sirloin that I have had in years. The meat just melted in my mouth — and the South African merlot was the perfect accompaniment for pairing with it. My husband had the roasted vegetable plate. The vegetables and the salad starter created a “symphony of pleasures” (his actual words) on his palate.
We also had an opportunity to meet Nicole, one of the owners of the restaurant. We had a wonderful conversation, and learned a lot about her inspiration for creating Nyurah.
If you are in Kigali, you must come here for dinner. Period.
This is not an exaggeration. This is...
Read moreWhat a hidden gem in Kigali, a true 5 Star Michelin Standard restaurant; from the attentive service, to serving details, to the food preparation, this restaurant is definitely unique.
Yes the restaurant a bit difficult to find, inside a building, go to the M level. We dined here on a Friday evening, not too crowded; we were greeted cordially and seated promptly.
The restaurant is not luxurious, but its simple classy decor provides a comfortable experience in a soft ambiance.
My cocktail, Spicy Margarita, was refreshing and well prepared. They have a good selection of International wines and cocktails.
My starter, Cauliflower & Cassava Coconut Velouté, well balanced flavors, was delicious.
My main course, Moringa Infused Ravioli; was definitely rather a different kind of ravioli, but it truly reflects the Chef's culinary vision.
My dessert, Chocolate Lava Cake, all I can say; Yummy!!
If you are looking for a different, private atmosphere dining experience, this restaurant will provide you with those.
If I am ever back to Kigali I will patronize this...
Read moreFantastic food, impeccable service, highly recommended. I really enjoyed my dinner here. Despite coming early and therefore being the only guest I was made to feel welcome. The service was excellent, quick, but not overbearing.
I enjoyed the amuse bouche with fried local (cray?) fish and lemon sorbet as palet cleanser. The starter of tilapia gravlax was very well balanced with very intriguing coffee butter offered with the small side of bread.
The main of gnocchi was good, perhaps the gnocchi could have been a little crispier but the sauce was delicious.
The desert of white chocolate mousse did not disappoint either, nice and light with playful presentation.
Given the role of this restaurant in training young people for culinary and hospitality jobs the meal and service was a tremendous testament to their skill and hard work. Certainly the best food I have had in Rwanda for a very reasonable price.
Highly recommended, with improved signage I am sure more people will...
