Ubumwe Grande Hotel — Hotel in Kigali City

Who knew Rwanda will one day have something classic like Ubumwe! It always put a smile on my face seeing such a place in a thousand, I was there in February and trust me, I gave it five stars without hesitation.

Location: The location it's self is the first thing they got right, easy to be spotted, easy for a night walk or evening jogging and back to the hotel since its located in the heart of kigali..

Services: The waiters and waitress are so trained knowing well what they are supposed to do, immediately after you get out of the elevator, you are welcomed and your order will be taken and expect to receive your order so quick probably less than 10 mins compared to what other spots in the city have to offer..

Prices: The menu is a little bit costly but hey everybody will have to get something for his pockets at Ubumwe, well I always went there in the evening for herbal tea so refreshing and throat clearing buffed with strong ginger and lemon and it costs a smile 3k..

Swimming pool: Too bad only client's I mean guests in the hotel can use the swimming pool not guest to the restaurant.

The rooftop : There's no way anybody can talk about Ubumwe without talking about the rooftop, I mean, honestly without the rooftop I wouldn't have gone there in the first place, this is where the magic happens, its so high to clearly see the whole of kigali and far away in the mountains, nice spot for photographers, and preferably in the evening to catch the sun set and then at night to get drowned in the kigali lights… by the way the swimming pool is located at the rooftop ummm how many places in kigali would you find such a setting.

Wifi: Did I say its a free speedy wifi? Guess I didn't mention that… hey do you really need to work on something important fast and all you need is a free wifi spot in kigali, rush to thw rooftop thats all you...

My first room smelled of sewage, which made one of the staff physically gag when I requested they come and inspect it. It was a health hazard. ||The hotel seemed nearly empty, yet a replacement room was not handled well, nor in a timely manner.||I hurt my foot in the shower as the cover over the shower waste was not secure and slipped off when I stood on it under the shower. ||The rooftop bar and cafe had incredible views, and quite good food, with the staff attentive and pleasant.||Couldn’t believe though that there wasn’t even one banana available when requested one for breakfast; as I have Coeliac disease and a recent tummy upset.. so I was looking forward to just a banana for brekky. Sadly, in the land of bananas - none were to be found here. ||Water was not supplied in our room and a request to housekeeping for some did not eventuate. ||There was a storm one afternoon so our wanderings around Kigali were thwarted; so our afternoon entertainment was watching the lightning and all the water running down the windows and across the floor on the rooftop bar and cafe; after my husband slipped on the water before we realised there were puddles. ||It was more of a health hazard staying for one night here than the two weeks prior on our African safari and in the jungle with the gorillas. ||Will never...

The experience I had at the rooftop restaurant of Ubumwe Hotel was extremely disappointing. Despite the breathtaking views of the city from the rooftop, the quality of the food and service left a lot to be desired. To start with, the menu was very limited, and the dishes that were available were quite expensive, which made me expect high-quality food. However, when the food arrived, it was cold and lacked flavor. I was disappointed by the behavior of one of the waiters. While setting up our table, the waiter threw the table mat onto the table in a careless manner, which was not only unprofessional but also disrespectful to the guests. Overall, I was extremely disappointed with my experience at the rooftop restaurant of Ubumwe Hotel. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good dining experience. The food was subpar and overpriced, and the service was slow and unresponsive. I hope this review will be helpful for others considering dining at the rooftop restaurant of Ubumwe Hotel.
