Old beer brewery place converted into huge pub/restaurant with a whisper of brewery museum. Quite impressive atmosphere inside, quite different outside, which is why I hesitated between 3 and 4 stars on atmosphere - garden is just side by one of most busy streets in Ljubljana, noise of traffic mixed with a bit loud music from Union Pub speakers render you conversation into countless "Sorry, what?" and "Again, please, I cannot hear you", which is not especially relaxing.
Beers are top! Even if you take regular Union beer, which you drink anywhere else, here it has better taste. Premium IPA is what I recommend, you won't regret.
Food, however, does not reflect the premium expectation. Well, it is pub at the end, not fancy restaurant. Burgers are average and leaking fluids like 35 years old car, so if you are not carefull, better take shower after meal. Beef tagliata was gentle, soft and tasty, leaning to rare side. But most of all sausages, tripple beer servings, were one of the best I've ever tasted. Much recommended!
Price? Well, spicy, what else to say. Well worth a visit, but as my age does not soak that traffic rumble well enough, I will consider going...
Read moreWe had a very nice tour for 14 euro's. It includes a guide, some drinks and a special souvenir. The tour took about 1.5 hours. Our guide was Monica and she was really good and enthousiastic. She kept us enganged by asking questions, which was really fun, but she didn't had to, because it already was very interesting. The museum was very nice and we weren't thursty during the tour. We were there on a hot monday in high season and didn't had to make a reservation. We were with a smal select group, maybe 12 or 13 people which was very nice. We had a nice group of funny people. For the money you pay it is more than recommandable!!
After the tour we drunk a few beers and ate a really nice meal. Would love to come back here to eat and drink. Quality is high and prices are friendly, so for that perfectly...
Read moreThe only Beergarten in Ljubljana is nice, modern and well designed and also quite popular, so mostly genuinely lively. One tends to expect cheaper beer prices in brewery's local beergarten, but unfortunately not here. Food was ok albeit nothing to write home about. If it is busy be prepared to wait at the bar and reserve a table. So all in all, ok, but also somewhat "meh" considering the potential. You can get the same beer, more beer and better beer with equally busy and lively scene in many bars in Ljubljana center. I am mostly sad, that a capital which was born and raised in rich german beer culture has not to offer also proper, genuine, historical beer garten experience which you can find in Astria and Bavaria, and which is also part of Slovenia, but cant be felt in the too modern...
