If it’s traditional Slovenian food you want then you MUST eat here!
We were recommended here by the team at the river and it’s most definitely worth the 450m walk from in town to here.
The line was long but moving and as we were a party of four we were quick to be given a table (I would recommend couple’s particularly booking in advance).
The venue is gorgeous with a warm and rustic feel but with modern touches. The staff are actively attentive and service is excellent. Our table was clean with enough space for four adults, spaced nicely from the surrounding tables to not be eating with the other couples seated in proximity to us.
The menu is well structured for sequence and was in Italian and English for us so it made for easy ordering.
Drinks were the local wine spritz, juice and a local soft drink like Fanta called ora.
We ordered a number of items to share being: the compe Štruklji beef soup Bograč goulash Kranjska Klobasa beef shank
Not a dish to fault. Absolutely amazing with different textures, balances of flavours and flavour combinations.
My favourite by far being the beef shank cooked in soup being tender, succulent and plentiful.
The Štruklji was delicious for such simplicity but complex in flavour and texture. Will most definitely be returning for another of these.
The meals were cleaned up by us and I was amazed at the value given the helping and the quality of food and service delivered.
Make sure you hold at least one lunch or dinner when in Ljubljana as this traditional restaurant should not be missed.
Thank you to the server that took care of us and gave great recommendations.
See you when next...
Read moreI am a famous wine professional and I travel to Slovenia often and love it when I do ! But … the one thing that I have a Zero Tolerance for is bad service and … rude and disrespectful staff . I came at the recommendation of a good friend and accomplished wine producer that lives near Figovec. My good friend said that Figovec offered Good Wholesome Slovenian Food . This is a fair statement , but when paired with a sommelier that knows as much about wine as a jackass does horse racing , along with a personality more befitting of a prison guard than a sommelier , it makes everything associated with this restaurant downright DISGUSTING . I witnessed This man pretending to be a sommelier treat good paying customers like they were mortal enemies. I understand that a nice lady owns this place, so I strongly urge her to take notice of her staff before what seemingly is a popular neighborhood establishment becomes just another Bankrupted Restaurant. People work hard for their money today and NO ONE wants to go where the staff is uneducated and mean spirited and Figovic is deeply infected with both … not to mention a terrible wine list. I also noticed that my experience was not an isolated one . That most all complaints come back to rude and disrespectful staff and poor service ; therefore , until Miss Figovec gets her House of Figs in order , I strongly recommend that you avoid this...
Read moreSlovenska Hiša – Figovec was recommended by a local friend who often goes there for lunch with colleagues. From what I experienced, it’s a very authentic local spot offering Slovenian cuisine. We visited twice and tried a variety of dishes, including goulash, potatoes with cheese as a starter, dumplings, and even liver with potatoes—which ended up being my personal favourite.
We went during Easter, so the restaurant was decorated beautifully with seasonal details (called verba in Ukrainian), which added a charming touch. The waiter, Žiga, was attentive and gave helpful suggestions on what to try. Portions were generous, and the price range was very reasonable. The menu is available in both English and Slovenian, and the staff can assist in English if needed.
What could be improved: the restaurant is big with plenty of indoor seating and a terrace, but there were very few waitresses during busy times, which made service slower. On one occasion, a slightly drunk man approached us, and no staff were immediately available to help, which was uncomfortable. Additionally, the way the restaurant manages queues can sometimes block the walking space inside, which could be handled better.
Overall, despite a few service hiccups, it was a very enjoyable experience with authentic Slovenian dishes, and we liked it enough to return for a...
