Had the most disappointing dining experience ever by Ocean Basket Tygervallay. First let me start off by saying that I am a big fan of Ocean Basket restaurants, but this was not a pleasant experience, especially considering it wasmyself and my girlfriend anniversary.
Upon arriving and being seated, it took a full 10 minutes for any waiter to even bother to come assist us. Plenty of them just standing around near the entrance and near the kitchen, but one struggles to get anyone's attention. When someone eventually decided to come take our order, my girlfriend ordered the lemonade (R42 for 1 litre, as indicated on our bill), and I ordered a red wine carafe, confirming with the waiter that I wanted a 250ml one, not the 750ml one.
After our drinks arrived and we ordered our food (18 prince prawns for myself, fish and calamari for my girlfriend), we waited for our food to arrive. My girlfriend ordered a Fanta Grape because she had finished her lemonade, and our food arrived at the same time. While eating my prawns, I noted that at least a third of them were undercooked!
At this point I was already livid because the service was so atrocious, with waiters that never bother to check up with you on how your food is, etc, but even when you try to get their attention, they ignore you. when we received the bill (and also having noticed that the neighbouring table had ordered a lemonade and was brought a 1 litre jug of it), I noticed that we were charged on the bill for 1 litre of lemonade, despite only receiving a 250ml carafe of it (Since the menu didn't specify what the quantity was, we assumed it was 250ml, until we saw our neighbouring table's big jug). Eventually it was rectified after the waiter discussed it with the manager (And neither of them even had the decency to come offer a proper apology).
I will say this - I love Ocean Basket, it is one of my favorites, but the service received at Ocean Basket Tygervalley tonight really put a stain on my impression of the franchise. Read moreFirst let me say that we frequently go to this restaurant. Usually the service and food is good. Yesterday was another story. Our waitress was purposely delaying our order and meal. She was not attentive at all. First she brought our rolls and promised to bring plates and cutlery but did not return with it. We reminded her twice and eventually another waiter seeing we were waiting so long sorted us out. By that time our rolls were cold. We ordered sushi and were prepared for a bit of a wait but what happened next was ridiculous. She was chatting to other staff and walking around, I saw this plate of sushi standing waiting and I told my husband I hope that is not ours because our waiter went up to it and chatted to the sushi ladies and walked away without it. It stood a full 30 minutes and then guess what! She brought it over to our table! I was so shocked. She muttered an apology for it being late and seemed to chuckle. I was so shocked I could not get the words out. By that time we were so hungry and late for a hospital visit so my husband said to just leave it and let’s go. AFTER THEY SERVED MYSELF AND MY FIANCE A PLATE OF HEAVY SALTED SUSHI THE MANAGER ON DUTY CAME TO OUR TABLE TELLING US HE'S SORRY FOR THAT CAN THEY OFFER US SOME FREE DRINKS (which I think he thought we gonna jump for free drinks) AND I TOLD WE DON'T WANT ANYTHING JUST DON'T SERVE THAT KIND FOOD TO PEOPLE THEN THE SILENT RACISM STEPPED FORWARD (manager) SAYING YOU'RE THE FIRST COUPLE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE SUSHI....
AND THEN SAID THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH OUR SUSHI CAN YOU PLEASE PAY YOUR BILL AND THEN WALKED AWAY......
GUESS WE WERE THE FIRST COUPLE TO SAY NO THANK YOU TO FREE DRINKS AND JUST HAD A FRIENDLY REQUEST NOT TO SERVE THAT SALTED SUSHI TO THEIR CLIENTS
BUT ACCORDING TO THAT MANAGER HE DON'T HAVE TIME TO LISTEN TO COMPLAINS LIKE THAT HE'S GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO AND HE'S 100% SURE WE WERE TRYING TO GET FREEBIES ...
