We decided to visit this establishment on Thursday night. What a mistake! We were intimidated and violently chased out of this place for no reason.
We finished our sunset cruise and dinner at V and A Waterfront, and took a taxi to this bar afterwards. Five of us ordered 2 glasses of wine, 2 whiskey and a cocktail. I asked for some ice for our friends to water down the whiskey, but already received unfriendly attitude from the bar men. After a while, the owner shouted at us and accused us of pouring our own alcohol in our glasses.
Although we tried to explain, the owner or the manager of the bar with long hair, and the bouncer very violently chased us away from the place. We were extremely confused and traumatized. Even if we tried our best to explain ourselves, they still physically dragged us out of the bar. We were scared for our life.
My partner and I both used to be owners of a restaurant for many years. Our friends are school teachers. One friend is a company owner in Cape Town. To be accused of drinking our own alcohol at a bar and treated so horrifically was really insulting.
The treatment we received from the owner and bouncer was abusive. They intimidated and manhandled innocent people who especially took a Uber there to support his business.
They claimed we drank too slowly, so it proved we had to be drinking our own alcohol. How ridiculous! They could've checked their security footage or just check our bags. They didn't even do that. How can they just accuse us, and use violence against us? Arrogant and abusive!
They wouldn't listen to us at all. Luckily we stayed calm and walked away from the situation. Otherwise we probably would've been hurt badly.
The owner and the bouncer were extremely violent and irrational. Avoid this place at all cost for your own safety. This place is dodgy and dangerous. Don't...
Read moreAs a woman, I find this to be one of the best and safest bars in Cape Town. Tonight, a group who were asked to pay a deposit for damages prior to arrival, because of how many they were, ignored the request and came in anyway. As a local, I watched with consternation, as they arrived all at once and started to behave horribly. They were asked to leave and started threatening the owner and telling him they would cancel him. Then they smashed glasses and got really aggressive. The CCID had to be called and it got quite ugly. I hated seeing this happen at my favourite bar and I'm honestly only writing this review because they started posting like keyboard warriors as they had threatened; somehow forgetting that Dust and Dynamite is owned by a man who built everything from scratch and simply asked for some consideration and respect from them.
I have no affiliation with the management of this place but genuinely, strongly feel I should leave this review because there are two sides to every story and tonight, the majority could and did gang up on the owner of a...
Read moreTruly awful experience at this establishment. We arrived as a group of girls as part of a bachelorette, all dressed in our rodeo theme (23/08/25). We were admitted at the front door, only to be physical hauled out by the bouncer moments later who shouted at us that it was a private party...then why not say so at the entrance? An unnecessary use of force and aggression displayed by this individual, who yanked one of the ladies by the arm and shoved another on her back because they weren't moving fast enough to get out the door and we weren't even up the stairs yet! Totally unprovoked and disgusting display of bullying, disrespect and boorish behaviour on his part. I hope that Management will address the uncivilised attitude that this bouncer has shown to women. We had heard so much about this venue and didn't even get to experience the unique interior and vibe. Definitely a...
