What was originally a hotel, has been converted into a very practical working environment for digital nomads. The customer service from the front desk and security to the cleaners and those who work in the café on the ground floor are exceptional.
Peter the security guy goes the extra mile and remembers everyone's name and I always look forward to seeing his face in the morning before I start work.
The building is situated pretty much central, with everything in very easy reach. For the waterfront you can easily walk within 20-25 minutes or, you can just get an Uber to anywhere for a very reasonable price, especially compared to other countries. There are a number of shops within a stones throw of the property.
There's an in-house chef who can create some really amazing dishes for just 90 rand. He will deliver your dish to your desk at a time to suit you.
My only concern is that that kitchen is in the coworking space and at times it can get a little noisy. There are currently no call rooms, but there is a desk in your room should you need a bit of privacy.
The bedrooms are clean and spacious. They are regularly cleaned. Please note that you will need to buy your own toiletries (e.g. toilet roll, shampoo, soap, etc) as these are restricted to only short-term stays.
The community itself is good however, it did lack a WhatsApp group in which you can communicate with all residents across the Neighbourgood properties however, I did voice my concerns and within a week they set up a communal WhatsApp group.
They do host regular events and publish these on a WhatsApp group.
In terms of safety, there is facial recognition system to get into the property combined with security personnel and cameras. At no point during my stay did I feel my security was at risk.
The atmosphere is relaxed and work orientated with a very comfortable vibe and I strongly recommend it to any digital nomad wanting to visit Cape Town, explore, and get...

Absolutely appalled by my stay. Rooms 206 and 207 are uninhabitable due to severe water leaks from outdated AC units. Room 206 has obvious, long-standing water damage and likely mold. I had to use towels to soak up constant water on the tile floors. Room 207's hallway leak saturates the carpet, creating a disgusting smell and likely more mold. I provided photos to staff, but they seem to ignore serious issues. They blamed me for "running the AC all day" instead of fixing the problem. I feel like I deserve a refund just for these issues, but I'm sure they will ignore everything I told them because they operate like a cheap hotel.
Beyond the rooms, the lack of "Do Not Disturb" signs is bizarre. No on-site laundry, and the outsourced laundry service is expensive and did a terrible job.
The location is also a major safety issue. The hotel is right next to a large homeless encampment on Albertus Street. As a woman, I felt incredibly unsafe due to constant harassment. I strongly advise women to stay elsewhere because you will get hollered at by the homeless or drug using men, and they are everywhere. You have to take Ubers everywhere due to the sketchy area, even if you are only going a couple blocks away.
This hotel uses cheap, temporary fixes instead of addressing real problems. The photos provided show the long-standing water damage. The rooms they put me in literally never stopped leaking, ever. I deserve a refund. Avoid...
Read moreMy husband and I had an absolutely incredible experience at Neighbourgood East City. As digital nomads, comfort and reliability are essential to us, and this location exceeded our expectations in every way. We had previously stayed at Neighbourgood Newlands, but the service at East City was truly impeccable.
We initially booked for 7 days but, for the first time this year, decided to extend our stay by another week. The environment was so welcoming, and it truly felt like a home away from home. The industrial-style kitchen was a delight to cook in, and I’m still dreaming about those heavenly biscuits!
During our stay, we unfortunately experienced a miscarriage, and the kindness and support shown by the staff meant the world to us. Their genuine care and assistance made a difficult time a little easier, and for that, we are deeply grateful.
Beyond that, the internet was fantastic, allowing us to get plenty of work done, which is crucial for our lifestyle. Neighbourgood East City has set a new standard for us, and we’re eager to explore more of their locations. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a warm, professional, and comfortable...
