Die Nag Uil Paarl — Restaurant in Drakenstein Local Municipality

My recent experience at the Naguil left much to be desired. Despite the restaurant's low patronage and seemingly relaxed atmosphere, the service was disappointingly lacking. My waiter, who remained nameless throughout my visit, was difficult to flag down, making it a challenge to place orders or address concerns.

Initially, I ordered a draft beer, but upon tasting it, I found it unpleasant. Despite waiting for my waiter's return, he never appeared. Eventually, I took matters into my own hands and exchanged the draft for a bottled option at the bar. The bartender seemed preoccupied with casual conversation and was less than accommodating when I brought up the issue with the beer's quality.

Later, when I attempted to order a pizza, my waiter was still nowhere to be found. I had to seek assistance from another waitress to place my order. When my waiter finally reappeared, I reiterated my request for the pizza and reminded him about the beer exchange. However, even after a significant wait, my pizza failed to materialize promptly.

After multiple attempts to capture my waiter's attention, he hurried off to the kitchen to presumably place my order. Despite this, when the pizza finally arrived, it was underwhelming and certainly not worth the extensive wait.

To add insult to injury, upon receiving the bill, I discovered that I had been charged for the draft beer I had returned. When I expressed my dissatisfaction with the service to the waiter, he simply shifted blame onto the kitchen staff, offering little in the way of apology.

Overall, my experience at the Naguil was marred by poor service and lackluster food, and I have no intention of returning...

Disappointing Experience at Naguil, Paarl

Dear Naguil Management,

I would like to express my disappointment following a recent visit to your restaurant in Paarl. Unfortunately, my experience was far below expectations, both in terms of service and food quality.

I waited over 90 minutes for a medium-rare steak, only to be served a piece of meat that was almost inedible due to excessive sinew. I couldn't even finish half of it. When I brought this to the attention of the manager, his only response was a brief “thanks” before walking away – an extremely unprofessional and dismissive reaction that added to my frustration.

To make matters worse, the waiter was barely present. In nearly two hours, I only managed to order two drinks, as the waiter seemed to appear only every 40 minutes or so.

This was my first experience dining in Paarl, and sadly, it left a very negative impression. I expected far better from a venue like Naguil, which came highly recommended.

I hope you take this feedback seriously, as the current level of service and quality does not reflect well on your establishment or the Paarl dining...

We were pleased to find a restaurant with a great menu across the road from our accommodation. Upon entry we were asked whether we wanted a table in the smoking are or non-smoking area - I thought it was the law in South Africa that smoking was banned in restaurants. So we asked for the non-smoking section, but were disappointed that the stench from the smokers was wafting into the non-smoking area. We asked the staff if the windows could be opened for ventilation and they kindly obliged, however we were very cold throughout the evening but at least we could breathe reasonably easily - we would have walked out otherwise. For these reasons I gave the atmosphere a low score. If it was a properly non-smoking restaurant I would rate that at least 5 stars! I cannot remember our waitress's name, but she was so attentive and friendly. The food and drinks were great too. Sorry to say... I wouldn't visit again unless it was...
