Took a friend out for lunch on Sunday, the waitress that took the order could not be bothered to listen to get our order right for drinks, After asking several times, where the drinks were drinks were brought inconsistently at the table with most of it being incorrect. We then placed our food order, and this was checked twice with the waitress, as well as asked for the waitress to read it back to us after 30 minutes, nobody (waitress or management) came to check why our daughter was the only one at the table of six people who had her food, the rest of us were waiting. Another 25 minutes past with us, asking the manager where our food was – there was no answer for why we were waiting so long. What looked like an obvious lack in communication between the waitress, management and the kitchen. It could be seen from our table that our food had not even been prepared. We then waited another 20 minutes for our food to arrive only for the order to be incorrect again, and one of us not to have food. Service: We had a great waitress that was friendly and made small talk with my kid that I really appreciated. Her service was quick and efficient.
Seating: We sat outside and it was nice hearing and seeing kids play. The fresh air was good and we had no issues with flies. Everything was next and the tables were clean.
Food: This, unfortunately, is where things went south. We ordered sushi and the 3-way calamari.
3-way calamari: Not all the rice was hot. Some of it was warm, some room temperature, some colder. They use Cajun spice on some of the calamari, but in this case the spice was sandy and I had to remove bits out of my mouth. The waitress explained that the spice is like that. I disagree as I've had this dish at many a Ocean Basket before and have never experienced this.
The lemon we received was past its usable date. It was hard and browning.
Sushi: Some of the sushi were quite good. The problem was some ingredients like the avo should have been fresh. The same with the garlic which has also started browning and had a hard edge when we received it.

We placed our order drinks and food at the same time , but our food took over an hour to arrive, and only after we complained. The manager said they were awaiting for rice to complete our order ,Now tell me why the rice took a further 20 minutes after he said 5 minutes. By that time, we had lost our appetite and refused the food. What's worse, we watched as tables that arrived after us received their meals promptly.
To add insult to injury, the manager insisted that we take the food home.He apologised, Reluctantl, we agreed. When we got home, we were horrified to find that the food was undercooked and inedible. The fish was raw, the rice was uncooked, and the prawns were overcooked.
The service was slow and our waiter kept taking more tables , and the staff seemed unconcerned about our experience. For a restaurant that claims to offer fine dining, Ocean BasketCastle Gate fell woefully short. Needless to say, we will not be returning.
