My wife and I visited Castle Gate Rocomamas on Sunday evening. The restaurant was fairly empty and there was just one other table inside except for us, who had already finished eating or only had drinks. There was no one to greet us at the door, and we walked to a table. A waitress came to serve us, but she was speaking so softly we could almost not hear her, and she was visibly very shy. We ordered drinks, which took 20 minutes to get to the table, if not longer - for a Coke and passionfruit and Sprite - while it was not busy at all.
We ordered a burger each and 3 Feta bombs. By the time the burgers were done, there were no signs of the bombs, and we could hear the waitress tell the people in the kitchen that the bombs aren't ready. She came to deliver our burgers so long. I asked for hot sauce, and the waitress brought tomato sauce. I reiterated that I asked for hot sauce, and she answered that it's out of stock. I think she genuinely thought I might not know the difference between hot sauce and All Gold. The burgers were okay, but nowhere near the quality I have seen from other Rocomamas. They were cold, the buns looked like they weren't fresh, and for some reason I had a raw/frozen fry next to my burger.
A few minutes later, the bombs were brought to our table. They were clearly not feta bombs, so I took one and cut it open, to find jalapeno in the bomb, which was also visible from the outside of the bomb, and no feta. I told the waitress that they are not feta bombs, and she looked very confused and tried to tell me they are feta bombs, but I still disagreed with her, showing her that there is no feta in it and that there is jalapeno in it.
The waitress then called the manager, who was not friendly at all and didn't remotely try to be pleasant. I explained the situation to her and she also tried to convince me it's feta bombs. I showed the bomb to her and she tried to tell me that the green in the bomb is in fact gherkins. I told her where she sees feta in the bomb, and that I know they aren't feta bombs since we usually order them at other Rocomamas restaurants.
By this time we had already finished our burgers so I asked the manager to just take it off the bill. She then walked away and spoke to the waitress and I asked the waitress for the bill. As I was done paying she said sorry, and then someone brought a basket with 4 bombs, now clearly feta bombs. As we were done eating and the atmosphere was ruined, we declined and left. So not only did this manager and waitress both adamantly argue that the previous bombs were jalapeno, they then tried to insult my intelligence when I said they are not and by being given tomato sauce when I asked for hot sauce. Then, when they realized they were wrong try to make it up when we were already done eating.
This was a terrible experience. We usually enjoy Rocomamas but Castle Gate's staff and service really ruined this experience. The staff weren't friendly or confident, they were incompetent and rude. - and they don't even know their...
Read moreFood here is always good, and I've had positive experiences in the past, but this was all overshadowed by the horrible service my girlfriend and I got last night.
My girlfriend finishes work at 8pm, and since she also works in 'fast food' we're quite considerate of operating hours and when staff knock off.
We walked into Rocomama's Castle Gate at 20h45 on a Tuesday night, with the intentions of asking when they close and if their kitchen is still open.
I said hello to the lady at the till, and she didn't even look up to greet me and my girlfriend back. All we got was an eye roll, a minute of silence followed by a muffled grunt upon our entrance to their restaurant.
She didn't even say hello, she just instantly assumed we would force them to prepare a meal while they were cleaning the kitchen.
One of the cooks came up to us and offered to make burgers, to which we declined since they had started cleaning up and closing for the night.
We don't expect service right before closing, we understand and empathize that staff want to go home, but a polite 'Good evening, sorry but we close in 15 minutes and the kitchen isn't able to prepare anything else tonight' is more than sufficient!' We simply came in to ask anyway, but this staff member assumed the worst, and treated us horribly because of it.
We don't expect any compensation or want to make a formal complaint via email, I'd just like the staff to be informed that we should be treated as a customer, regardless of the closing times. Not everyone is out to make you stay later than...
Read moreGive this place the widest possible miss !! My wife and I popped in at 12H23 to have a quick lunch and was met by easily THE most rude and idiotic ( possible cause for the rudeness; as my grandfather used to say; there are no pills for stupid..) waiter we have EVER encountered anywhere on this planet ! No greeting, throws down some white cards and walks away. When he returns, he still does not talk us and when I asked him how we order he simply, once again, walked away without even showing us the slightest courtesy or listening to us..! We got up to leave and this is point he felt it appropriate to rush up to us and verbally attack us; some rubbish about not respecting him or showing HIM some courtesy etc etc. What about the same to the customer ? I went inside to tell the manager about this completely unacceptable and uncalled for reaction but the manager just sat there looking at me dumbstruck....yet to utter a single word. Needless to say, we'll never go near that place again. Afterwards, looking at this place from Fire Room, a lovely restaurant across the walkway, we noticed it was actually almost completely empty, bar 4 people at a window table inside...a sure sign of its popularity and success; especially at lunchtime, when all the other restaurants were packed full...They might as well close down and go away, far, far away....PLEASE ! We don't tolerate racism in our...
