No "Kosher" sign on door - just a small piece of paper behind cashier so Kosher customers have no way of knowing they can eat there.
R42 for a medium size salad (they call it "large" but its not) is reasonable if there is salad in it...but there are almost no vegetables to put in it. Cucumber, grated carrots, tomatoes, green peppers and red onion is all the veg choice...and was cut pretty badly.
A small roll of smoked salmon costs...another R42! All the cheeses and eggs costs extra too.
I paid R84 for a salad consisting mainly of red onion with a tiny bit of salmon on top. There is only one type of salad dressing.
The boss was nice and welcoming but the rest of the staff didn't seem to know what is going on.
I was excited for a new local kosher eatery but there is very little to choose from & is all expensive.
I hope I can soon improve review with an improved experience but I don't know how a bagel and salad bar will survive in a prime location with high prices if there is so little to put in your bagel and salad. Hope it will be better next time.
RESPONSE TO MANAGER'S REPLY Not at all surprised to receive such a prompt and well worded reply after meeting you and experiencing your kind nature.
I look forward to returning as you develop your menu...
Read moreHere you can zone in on a range of meals. Choices are varied without overwhelming you. I bought plain bagels to take home. The next day I was back. This time I sat down and ordered a bagel with a filling.
The 'everything' bagel (refers to seasoning, not filling) is absolutely delicious. As I was about take my first bite, the combined effect of garlic, salt, and other wonderful seasonings did exciting things to my tastebuds. I still don't know what happened there.
The first bite of my avo, haloumi, roasted veg and cream cheese bagel, sensibly wrapped in a bit of greaseproof paper, made me confident that I wouldn't regret my choice and be hungry. I always do that to myself. Not this time. I had a meal with an Appletizer and walked out paying under R 100. I could have settled for plain water and loaded my bagel with more fillings. That's an idea.
There is enough seating and the restaurant is spacious. The bagels are displayed according to kind and there are soft drinks and fruit juices, as well as an impressive coffee machine. Next up will be a cup of coffee and a bagel with cheese or something. Perhaps just a towering, fresh bagel delivered to my place of work - another lovely...
Read moreThe service was absolutely pathetic, the lady who helped us made us feel unwelcome and as if she just wanted us gone, Firstly we both ordered the salmon, cream cheese and avo bagel, she treated the order as if only one person was ordering because she asked only one person how they want it and made both the same... I don't like pickles or tomato but she put all that in both, she did not ask us if we sitting down or taking away once, even though we went to sit at a table, she still packed it up in a bag to go. The service was so pathetic my fiance didn't even want to consider staying and then as if the whole experience wasnt terrible enough, we didn't even get Avo in the bagel as originally ordered. The staff running the place this Sunday(1st May) had no interest in working nor providing any level of customer service, totally dismissive and...
