Punjabi Tadka, best North Indian restaurant in Sandton!
Punjabi cuisine is your typical Indian food that most people are comfortable with. Lamb, chicken, fish and vegetarian dishes. Curries, samosas, rice and naans. This is the place you will get all of those. Proper North Indian cuisine.
We started with a good set of Chicken Samosas, thick and spicy filled with tender chicken. Definitely a great icebreaker, or ice melter actually as we did add way too much of the spicy sauce that they gave with the samosas, phew. Next, we obviously got ourselves some curries with basmati rice and garlic topped naan bread, because what else? Butter Chicken and Lamb Korma, both were fantastic choices. We still have not decided which one was the best. One Tummy loved the Butter Chicken and the other Tummy couldn't stop eating the Lamb Korma. This folks, is comfort food.
Service started off a bit awkward. The waiter and the host were very friendly but also very quiet. Felt like everyone just wanted to whisper, almost as if we were in the library. Nothing wrong with this. We don't want a waiter to be shouting at us, but it did seem a tad strange. Other than that the waiter was an absolute gentleman, actually handing me a ready wet wipe as I was using my serviette. Great service.
The restaurant has a little private corner which looks really nice and cosy, unfortunately someone beat us to it. The rest of the restaurant was open with neatly set tables and two big murals on either side. One of a woman and the other of their cartoony logo, kind of mix matched to be honest. The restaurant is quite bright and there was barely any kind of music in the background. Something we always yearn for, especially when we notice it isn't there.
The amount of delicious food you get here for the price is just winning. Absolutely amazing bowls of curry that is more than enough for a second meal. So basically you are paying for 2 full meals of tastiness. This is the type of value we like getting on board with.

Read moreBased off what I read I had high expectations when ordering from this place, I ordered chicken biryani and paaya soup off Uber Eats and I was absolutely dissapointed to say the least... The chicken biryani had a tiny piece of chicken and alot of bones without any meat on it.. The rice was poorly spiced and the portion was sadly small for the exorbitant prices I paid.. The price though I assume is an Uber Eats thing and not a Punjabi tadka thing per se.. But the food was not good, at all... Practically meatless... The "paaya soup" was jus 3 pieces of Trotter and oil... And big pieces of ginger... I won't be ordering from them again.. Absolutely dissapointed being a lover of Indian food... If you want real biryani, then biryani hut in Wendywood is your go to..
Edit: did you even read my review? I said the rice was poorly spiced, not extra spiced.. When I said tiny piece of meat I meant less than 1 portion of chicken... So I don't know where quarter chicken comes from...
And paaya does not mean bone marrow, it means feet.. Trotters... I'm urdu speaking myself... Please don't bullshit your customers... And I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere...
