On 23 September'23 I experienced a disappointing incident at Carvers restaurant that has left me dissatisfied and very unhappy. Upon visiting the establishment for a special function, I was abruptly and mistakenly without a reason forcefully asked to leave by a staff member and manager without reason. I have learned afterwards that there was a fight that broke out in the bar area while I was in the toilet, and as I departed from the gents toilet to return to my table, the above mentioned incident occurred. Neither me or anyone from my party was involved or connected in this fight. This unexpected treatment not only caught me off guard but also caused embarrassment, frustration and inconvenience. What is more disappointing is the lack of a real apology from the restaurant management team. Instead of acknowledging their mistake and offering an explanation for their actions, I was left feeling disregarded and disrespected as a customer. I have attempted to communicate with management on email, however they clearly don’t give a "damn" about this anymore as they don’t respond to my attempts to resolve this. As someone who values good service and positive customer experiences, I find it essential for a restaurant to take accountability for their missteps and make amends where necessary. The absence of a genuine apology in this situation only further reinforces my disillusionment with the restaurant's overall professionalism and commitment towards customer satisfaction. It is unfortunate when restaurants or any business fail to recognize that long-term success is dependent on creating genuine connections with patrons, rather than short-sighted profit-driven practices. I don't recommend this restaurant, especially if you have kids or for...
Read moreWe were really looking forward to a roasted meal in a cozy and warm setting on a very chilly winter's day this past Sunday. Upon our arrival at Carvers, we waited in the entrance to be greeted and seated at our reserved table. We waited and waited and waited and waited some more. At least 5 staff members stood in front of us at the till talking loudly and gesticulating but completely ignored our presence. Eventually a man came in from behind us and asked if we had been attended to, he then showed us to our table. We ordered our drinks and roast meals and proceeded to chat while we waited. It soon became apparent that the noise levels were rising as the place filled up and I couldn't help wondering if the owners were aware that by removing the cozy carpet and exposing the bare, concrete floor, it caused the sounds to echo around the room as there was no longer a carpet to absorb the sound. It became uncomfortably loud as all the tables competed to make conversation. Although I understand the practicality of cleaning such a floor, the bare cement does create a rather bleak setting. Throughout our meal, which was decent, the side door was opened and banged closed incessantly by a constant stream of children & staff members going in and out to the play area . The side door constantly blew open, letting in an ice cold gust of air each time. We or other patrons had to get up and close the door frequently. The door seems to stick so it bangs loudly each time a person tries to close it. It was impossible to ignore the constant banging of the door and cold air blowing on us and together with the noise levels, I'm afraid spoilt the whole experience for us. We stopped at Woolies on the way home to...
Read moreDecided to take the in-laws and other family to Carvers for the first time on Freedom Day today. I have seen the Cape-Dutch building from a distance and always wanted to go. Very scenic being next to a park with a pretty entrance and khoi fish swimming around. Feels like you somwhere in the Cape winelands, especially Boschendal. The pub that was showing the Lions game looked good as well. The waiter's service was good and he was very talkative. When the eisbeins came they were too crispy and dry, thought they would be basted. Only thing that was not great, it was not a dealbreaked. When the bill came I figured a 8% tip would suffice, the bill being an amount that contained a few rounds of drinks, starters and mains for 6 people. When the bill was about to be paid the waiter (which i would not name) told me the tip was not 10%. I in a puzzled way acknowledged that it was not and I asked him if there is a problem he said that the tip was not 10%. I asked him is there a rule or law that it must be and he answered me "That is how it normally is". I do work with poeple and I dont get irritated easily but I did find the waiter's attitude towards me disgusting. I worked at a well known restaurant chain in Potchefstroom in my varsity years and and i know for a fact there is no 10% rule. So I was offended and I told him straight. It did sour the whole evening. I will come again but I will definately not have him be my waiter again. I will not tolerate such arrogance and...
