The ambiance at Geet is second to none. The privacy when dining and the option of sitting on pillows on the floor makes you feel like you’re really dining with the sages of the East.
But be careful, that is all designed to rob you! As you are led like a sheep to the slaughter house by the waiter to your seat, they are trained to immediately offer you a bottle of 750ml water. With the skill of a well trained butler they present to you, “would you like some water?”. They do not tell you up front that you will pay more than seventy bucks for that bottle, which could have been filled from the tap, for all I know!!
Their menu is also designed to obfuscate their fraudulent practice. We asked for Punjabi samosas for starters. Again, the price is not declared upfront. We only had two of them and discovered when the bill arrived that we paid R170 for the pair! R170!!! I asked the waiter if my math was betraying me…”you telling me it’s R85 EACH??!!”. He stoically responded with a terse “yes sir”. We pay less for four in our local restaurant in Hartees.
The punjabi story sums the entire experience at Geet. Since our entire family is vegetarian, we like ourselves some Indian cuisine and we’ve tried out most of the Indian restaurants in and around Gauteng. It cost more for my wife and I to dine at Geet than it does for our entire family of five to eat at any other restaurant! No exaggeration.
And the food? You may ask? It’s just “mid”, as my teenage kids would put it.
Conclusion: if you want to be part of the high crime statistics in our...
Read moreExtremely disappointing - we had read amazing reviews about Geet but upon dining, we were very let down. We waited for approximately 45 minutes for just two starters, and when they finally arrived, one was cold and the other, very burnt. The zaffrani chicken tikka was described on the menu to be served with a beetroot component, which was forgotten in our dish. My husband sent both our starters back, and the waiter apologized saying they were very understaffed (apparently Sunday’s, even though a weekend, are a quiet day for them and so the management and owner had allowed majority of the staff to take leave?!) - a lot of other tables seemed disgruntled too and we heard a lot of yelling between the owner and in the kitchen - not pleasant for what was supposed to be a relaxed Sunday brunch. The servers seemed to be getting a lot of flack for what is not their fault, after all, it wasn’t their decision to understaff the restaurant.
Anyways, our server then came back to tell us that they would add chopped beetroot to the starter instead of remaking it the way it was supposed to be made as that would take approximately an hour due to the short staff. Obviously, we didn’t want to wait another hour for two starters so we agreed. We ended up ordering only one main dish - again, very underwhelming and served cold - as we didn’t want to spend more time waiting for food. The only saving grace was our polite server, who seemed...
Read moreGeet was recommended by a friend so we decided to give it a try on my son’s birthday.
Booked a table for 9. On arrival there were complimentary nibbles of 2 spicey sauces and papar. We waited about 20 minutes before a waiter came to our table explaining the complimentary treats and mentioned the non alcoholic drinks for which they do not have a menu for. He then took our drink orders which was served not long after. We then had to wait a while before he brought the menus to us. We waited an extra longer period before he could take our order this was all while we were watching him being attentive to the two other tables he was weighting on. At some point I was keen on just paying for the drinks and walking out. Eventually when he took our order I ended up not ordering a meal for myself. Couldn’t believe that an Indian restaurant does not do a thali
According to the feedback from the table - The food lacked strength in the spicy 🌶️ department.
The naan was pretty small for the price you pay - compared to other places where you pay less and get a bigger serving. Favourite naan ordered was the cheese naan. The desserts was definitely a no no - we ordered different flavours of kulfi ice cream and it was terrible - was not creamy at all.
Overall our service was aweful mains was average and dessert...
