I was really looking forward to eating here, given my fantastic experience at the sister restaurant, Momo Baohaus. I was very disappointed by my overall experience here and in future, I’ll probably stick to the Greenside offering. I arrived on a seemingly quiet Friday afternoon (10 August) at 13:00 without a reservation. I asked for a table for 3 and I was told that all the tables inside were reserved, and was ushered outside. It was a fairly windy and cold winters’ day and I had to ask for the heaters to be brought to the seating area and turned on. After sitting outside for over half an hour, many of the tables inside remained unoccupied but still no one offered to move us inside. To add insult to injury, a party of 5 arrived shortly afterwards, without a reservation (as I overheard them saying to one another they should check inside to see if they could manage to find a table) and they were seated inside win no issues. Most disappointing was when I ordered a salmon poké bowl, only for the waitress to return a few minutes later to tell me that there was no salmon. So much for getting to sample the supposedly famous poké bowls. For the hour and a half that we were there, we had 3 different waiters.

All in all a below...

I am a fan of Momo food and normally go to Momo and O, where the food is great and service is outstanding. So last night I wanted to introduce my 3 girlfriends to Momo food, and Illovo area suited us all, so we went to Momo Soko. What a disappointment it was. The service was so unfriendly, I couldn't believe it. The waitress served us like she was doing us the biggest favour in the world . Each time we needed something, we had to call her. She never came to check. I ordered a starter, which came about 5 minutes after everyone else's (we all had to wait for long), which wasn't great. When ordering starters, we said we'd order main course when starters come. But when she brought starters, I didn't have a second to open my mouth to order. She disappeared for about 40 minutes, so I never ended up ordering main. In my mind the restaurant was full beyond capacity, hence the service suffered. The ambiance is also not great, it felt a bit like a canteen. I felt embarrassed about recommending this place to my friends, who were all very...

Finally got to try Momo Soko, Illovo, can't believe it's been open almost 2 years. We went here for a friends catchup before everyone goes on holiday.

Sadly I wasn't as impressed as i had hoped (as i loved Momo &O in Norwood) the menu has the same great options of food and Bao buns obviously, but they were not executed properly.

I had the Salt n Pepper Calamari to start, which was a bit chewy. I then ordered a Chicken and Beef Bao bun. The chicken was so fatty/inedible on the outside, and some of my chicken wasn't cooked properly. The beef one was ok.

My friends enjoyed the Korean Spicy Chicken wings and the Firecracker Chicken, however the Spicy Kalbi beef was too salty.

So a bit of a hit and a miss for all of us, and service was rather slow.

Even though, we had a good catchup to ens the...

This place is a trap. Everything I’ve tried on the menu is super good. The aoraki beef skewers are really fatty, and the crushed peanuts are a nice touch. The mapo tofu has a nice sauce which is good for the sticky consistency of the rice. The shitake is great in it. The Kung pao bao is the perfect texture, with the beef nicely spiced. The lucky bao is also nice, but I liked it a bit less. The Momo Bowls are super filling, and I’d chose the Bangkok or the Seoul. The sticky buns with caramel sauce are amazing, and the right amount of sweet. We called ahead to be seated at five thirty on a Tuesday and they said that we’d need to leave by seven because of reservations, so make sure to sort that in advance! The staff is super attentive and accommodating. Will definitely come back to try everything else, especially the bao and soko selections.

Decided to give this restaurant a try. It was really empty just due to some bad weather but it made the dinning experience nicer (especially during covid) however one disappointing thing to see was when two customers came in, sat down, looked and the menus and decided to leave. Once they had left the two tables they sat at weren't sanitized after them. Food wise, stunning food. We had two starters and two Momo bowls. Both absolutely delicious. Very reasonably priced. The Bangkok Momo bowl is superb, you get a lovely fresh taste of the Thai Basil. The KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) was tasteful and sticky and the Seoul Bowl was also lovely. We had a really friendly waitress who also made the experience better. Would recommend however ask for your table to be sanitized before you sit down.
