Ocean Basket The Glen — Restaurant in Gauteng

Haven't eaten at this ocean basket ,usually only go to the one at gold reef or mall of the south but since we were here we decided to try it out and see if it compares to the others.

●SERVICE (Service was great)

●ATMOSPHERE (Great as it could be,restaurant was packed at some point and the decor was great,tables were clean.)

●PLATTER FOR ONE (The platter was decent,the fish fillet was cooked perfectly,prawns were over cooked,calamari was abit rubbery and the mussels were cooked perfectly,rice was soft and fluffy and chips were crispy,only let down is that nothing was seasoned,food was on the border of being bland but other than all that was great)

●SUSHI (When we placed the order the sushi was made first and was left on the counter for 25 min while waiting for platter,couldn't get ahold of a Waiter so just watched it sit there ,eventually it did come but I wouldn't reccomend sushi from ocean basket,rather go to a proper Asian restaurant for sushi,sushi was very dry and fish was not fresh,one of the salmon pieces was still abit frozen in the sushi which is dissapointing but the mayo also tasted very weird on the salmon roses,the sushi was left for so long on the counter that the avo on the sushi started turning a brown colour and just ruined the tatse)

●BREAD ROLLS (Besides the burnt parts ,rolls were actually pretty good.)

●DRINKS (On the menu it states "SLUSHEES" how ever when we ordered the grapefruit one, a sparkling grapefruit was just brought and when we asked about it we were told that's how they serve it,false advertising a slush as a normal sparkling drink.) Very disappointing experience. On arrival there is no-one to meet and greet you. Like the other customers one has to stand around and hope that you will be attended to, a random waiter may decide to show you to a table and at that point the service was fair. We were handed menus and asked what we would like to drink. No pleasantness, just surliness.

We ordered and initially we were offered another table's food, in fact twice, but no bother as we politely declined. Then our food arrived, my wife had ordered a seared smoked salmon and avocado salad and myself a fish and calamari combo. Firstly it appeared that my wife had been brought a starter portion, four minute pieces of salmon interspersed with three slivers of avocado, period. For R 79.00 definitely not value for money.

My calamari portion was small and the fish was hidden under a few chips which clearly had been around since early that morning. Supposedly grilled, the fish had been fried in batter. The calamari was like bits of rubber and the fish clearly the bottom end of the catch. I have never had chips so tough before, no they were not crisp.

On paying the bill the waiter took the bill along with his tip and walked off without so much as a thank you, the tip was 10%.

We had lunch today, 28/05/2023 with the worst experience ever.

Upon arrival there were 4 waiters at the entrance. We sat and waited for 10 minutes before getting a look in our direction. Then a waiter came and said it is not his table to serve but took our drinks order and I gave a starter order at the same time.

After another 15 minutes another waitress arrived and said she's our waiter. We gave our starter order again.

When she took our main order (for 4 people only) we had to repeat 4 times and still the order was wrong. I haven't even received my food. I ate the bread rolls and salad.

I urge you to train your staff as you will lose more and more business.

A simple thing, no utensils were even put on our table when we received the starters. When the mains arrived only 4 knifes and 3 forks. Maybe she already knew I was not getting my food. This is proof that no training is...
