Pachas Restaurant — Restaurant in Gauteng

First the good. We had a table salad and because of the dressing it was really tasty.

Now for the bad. We found the restaurant/manager really inflexible and he came across as arrogant which made the whole experience unpleasant.

In the first example I am allergic to gluten so am not allowed wheat. So I asked if any of the sauces were gluten free but the ones that were weren't my favourite so I asked if they could make a sauce with cream and no wheat. The answer was no. They make them in the morning in batches of 1, 2 and 5 litres so it couldn't be done.

So then one of the other guests who likes his meat with no blood asked if they could butterfly his steak. Again the answer was no but my friend was told it would be nice anyway. I mean how hard is it to slice a steak in half before cooking it to make a customer happy?

So then we asked our waiter if the owner was around and he said yes he was in the kitchen. So we asked the waiter if we could speak to the owner as we found the manager arrogant. Anyway after a while the manager arrived and said he heard we found him arrogant and offered a half hearted apology and said I could have a monkey gland sauce (which I don't like). So he said their sauce was different and I would like it and I could have it for free. Anyway I didn't particularly like it.

Then 2 of our party had the fillet between the sheets and thier prawns tasted bitter/off so they didn't/couldn't eat them.

While I can accept that they can't always accommodate some requests e.g. perhaps they don't have cream (not that we were told us that was the reason) there is no reason why they can't cut a steak in half. So the whole experience was very...

Pachas is a gem in an area brimming with excellent dining options, yet we always find ourselves returning here. It's the kind of place where you want to indulge in a full three-course meal. Yes, it’s on the pricier side, but believe me, the quality justifies every cent. The reason for the 4/5 rating? While the restaurant is typically busy, especially during peak times like Valentine's Day, it can sometimes feel a bit rushed. If you’re someone who enjoys a leisurely dining experience, I’d recommend mentioning this to your waiter to ensure a more relaxed pace between courses.
