The Manager, is very rude. She seems very entitled, I wonder who would hire someone with absolutely no sense of customer care. After my wife paying R600 bucks for a reservation to celebrate Father’s Day, We arrived about an hour early (cause I was excited) for our reservation with my 1 year old daughter and this entitle middle aged white lady manager wearing all black, acted as if we committed a crime. She took us to two tables that where free before eventually moving us to a corner table. I tried to ask her kindly that I understand we are an hour early but it would’ve been nice if the waiter found a table before taking us to two wrong tables before moving us to that corner one. One of the tables had my wife’s name written wrongly😄. She instantly snaped and started talking to me and my wife as if we are her adopted kids. No sense of respect at all. Very proud middle aged white lady with zero sense of customer care.

We eventually sat down at that corner table she gave us and after about 5 minutes she came back and started talking with that motherly tone to me and my wife saying that we came early and hence she had to look around the resturant to find a table. I have no problem about that. What I have a problem is her tone and character….she is a very rude lady and I think your resturant should really re-consider hiring a manger who looks like a robot with zero emotions and zero sense of customer care. I mean even here smile is fake. She looks like she hates her job. I was so uncomfortable I had to get up and leave and went to the Oster resturant next door. I asked her to refund me that booking fee.

On a lighter note, you guys have a very nice resturant and beautiful staff. It’s Just your manager is ridiculously rude and...

What a horrible experience I had today. Im baffled. Firstly I frequent the Rock in Kyalam and I always receive the best service and food is the best. I can’t say the same about the Hazelwood one

I ordered sea food pasta and the servings were so small and the pasta had no sauce. I told the waitress, she looked offended . I assured her is not you.

She called the manager. I could not get his name. He came to my table and I told him my concerns. He tried his best to assist. He came back and told me the chef did not want to fix my order. He suggested I ordered something else. I took out my phone showed him the portions from The Rock from Kyalam, from the pics I took when I was there for my birthday lunch. He saw that I was not overreacting, and he even said kyalam has more sauce. He managed to get me a new plate of pasta.

The older lady who brought my food . Looked so mad which I didnt understand .

I prayed over my food and I took my first bit , I was met with a slimy substance in my food( possible someone spit in my food) . I spit it out and it was a mucus and my friend was so shocked.i can’t believe this. The manager who was kind , came to my table because he saw I was not eating the food . Asked if I was still unhappy. I told him yes.I won’t becoming coming back.my friend suggested i tell him but I was embarrassed to tell him I just eat someones spit . I was just tired of the back and forth.

So do you selfs a favor do not RETURN your order here . Just eat your food even when you...

Waiter seemed a bit rushed, even though restaurant was half empty. Starters arrived around 40 minutes after being placed. Main meal ordered at 20h00 arrived at 21h00 At the end of the meal, even clearing the table took a while. Nice ambience. Clean environment. Toilets r a bit cramped, and can be improved upon.

Fair pricing Spoke to the manager, who very skillfully tries to divert attention to the "good quality food" being served.. Good attempt to placate an unhappy customer.

No welcome bread or "nibbles".. not impressed. No baby seat.. thats not good.

Did not have to send the steak back, as it was cooked a bit on the well side, rather than the medium asked for. But still better to be well done, rather than rare.

Tomahawk.. waiter got the wrong order, but was skillfully addressed by the manager.. good portion, fair price, ok taste Kingklip.. good portion size, fair price.. good taste Alfredo pasta.. good portion.. not tasted myself, but seems OK.. fair price Oxtail.. good portion.. fair price.. fair taste. Sushi.. very nice taste. Well presented..fair price fair portion Milkshake.. average. Liver starters.. fair portion, fair price, ok taste. Chocolate mousse... Best tasting item ordered for the evening.

Allowed us to bring our own birthday cake, and staff were very friendly, and even brought us a complimentary dessert.

Overall, worth another visit, just to chill and relax.. not with kids, though.

Standard 10%tip was given.

Managers trying...

I visited The Rock Hazelwood under Restaurant week suggestion. I do not regret taking their suggestion. I made reservation on the restaurant week website. I followed up the online reservation by calling in to the restaurant and was assisted by Mark. What a gem. The food was delicious. On the Restaurant week menu I had their sirloin for mains and creme brulee for dessert. Mhmmmm, the portions are generous. I couldnt finish my steak and my partner was full, like they aren't stingy hey. Service was excellent, Kuda, our waiter was checking in on us, giving great suggestions and leaving us with good jokes. We sat outside so we can enjoy the views when the sun was setting, they switched on the outdoor heaters and that just pushed the ambiance two notches up. It became warm and cozy. The aesthetics are natural colors with hints of nature like olive and browns. Very calming and rich. You appreciate the restaurant more when it's at night and the lights come on, wow!! We paired our meal with a nice chilled bottle of Boschendal. We are definitely coming back. Delicious food, great service, great views plus plenty parking that is easily accessible.

The place is popular and it’s a nice hangout. I have been to this place a couple of times. However, my last experience was terrible. Firstly, we wanted to move our table because we were burning from the sun and the waitress told us that it was impossible due to table sections but fortunately we were able to move. Secondly, our food was served cold and I did not enjoy my cocktail. I ordered a classic mojito and it lacked flavour! I could only taste the water. I returned the drink twice because I was dissatisfied and the waitress was disgruntled, complaining that she would have to pay for the drink so I asked her to call the manger. Fortunately the manager came and took off the drink from the bill and replaced it with my choice of drink. After that, the waitress never attended our table until we asked for the bill!! We wanted to order dessert and more drinks but we couldn’t because of the waitress attitude towards us.

First off, the food is really, really good. Kudos to the chef. We had the fillet and the lamb shank for mains, and the chocolate duo and the pistachio gelato for dessert. All very good. However, the waitering staff need finesse. The waiter that assisted us insisted my partner have a 350g fillet when he wanted the 250g. Once we had finished the mains, he immediately wanted our orders for dessert. One needs a bit of time to digest! Also, it's impolite to reach across the table while your patrons are talking to remove something, you need to walk around. Small things make a huge difference. The restaurant is beautiful and has a lot of potential, but the waitering staff are letting it down. I would suggest the owner and manager take a trip to someplace with a similar pricepoint like La Madeleine to see how it's done.
