This review is to try help those who perhaps are wanting to get as much joy/satisfaction, while still having the meal be "easy on the pocket". Very quick, thorough, and friendly service received from Bella. Ambience was lively even on a Thursday evening; great to get a seat overlooking the square, to see the lights and passers-by. Comfy chairs. Took us a while to decide whether or not to try the speciality sushi as well as the classic sushi; however, I'm glad that we did. This is personally not the kind of restaurant you come to, to be full to the brim (when ordering sushi); that being said, the gratis bread roll at the start plus an 8 piece speciality sushi should do the trick for most. I wouldn't recommend spending on the classic sushi options, go straight for the speciality, quality over quantity. We had the Chicago sushi and found it to be unique, not something you'd find at the local sushi bar, thus we thoroughly enjoyed it; the crispy rock shrimp sweet chili jam coupled with the cream cheese make for a textured burst of flavour! If one does not want to invest in trying out the speciality sushi, then one is probably better off paying for an all you can eat sushi buffet at your "tried and tested" local spot. The price here, I don't feel, is justified for the classic sushi (keeping in mind a sushi buffet could cost R215 at your local spot vs R150 for a classic 8 piece here). If one really wants to order the classic sushi, then perhaps order the rolls and not the sandwiches, as the latter seems to fall apart a bit when picking it up. I just couldn't give 5 star on the sushi at this stage and for this price, reason being that some of the sandwiches were falling apart ever so slightly, and this could be due to the fact that the sushi rice had begun to dry out/al dente ever so slightly? As one or two of my sushi pieces had a minutely dry/textured/chewy feel to the rice, wander if they go to great lengths to keep the rice at the required consistency? **Then again, The Big Mouth does not only serve sushi; I have heard folks rave about their steaks too, and you get a wonderful view and vibe - those "tasty" additions all cost money ;-) P.S the extra sauciness on the sushi in the pic is because we took the 'fully loaded' option, for an extra R25; is it worthwhile, I'd say so.

The Bigmouth Sushi & Grill at Nelson Mandela Square offers a delightful culinary experience. The restaurant serves a fusion of Asian and Western cuisine, with an impressive menu that successfully caters to a variety of palates. The sushi at Bigmouth is an absolute standout, with each piece crafted to perfection. The grill options are equally impressive, offering succulent meats cooked to your liking. The dishes are not only tasty, but also aesthetically pleasing, showcasing the restaurant's attention to detail. The restaurant's ambiance is both chic and relaxed, making it a great spot for both casual and formal dining. The open-kitchen design adds an exciting element to the dining experience, allowing patrons to see the chefs in action. Service at The Bigmouth is top-notch. The staff are knowledgeable, attentive, and quick to attend to customers' needs. Their professionalism significantly enhances the dining experience. Located in Nelson Mandela Square, the restaurant offers an excellent view of the bustling square and the iconic Mandela statue, adding an interesting dimension to the dining experience. On the downside, the prices might seem a bit high for some. However, given the quality of food, service, and the overall dining experience, it can be considered good value for money. In conclusion, The Bigmouth Sushi & Grill at Nelson Mandela Square provides a delightful dining experience with its quality food, excellent service, and pleasant ambiance, making it a must-visit when in the area.

Located at Nelson Mandela Square The Big Mouth is a contemporary take on the classic diner infused with culinary influences and ingredients from around the globe. Opened in 2015 at Nelson Mandela Square in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg The Big Mouth is a dining experience that you could easily find in a major city like New York, LA or London yet is still uniquely South African. Our menu varies from the freshest grilled seafood to gourmet burgers to a selection of world class sushi. The heart of the kitchen is our unique, world renowned Josper grill. This charcoal oven gives our hot dishes an authentic, robust chargrilled or “braai’d” flavour. Like our menu the store is a harmonious mix of elements - black steel shopfronts, a majestic white marble clad sushi bar, bold blue seating and brass accents throughout - all leading out onto the famous square.
