I finally made it to Trump’s Grillhouse & Butchery at Nelson Mandela Square, and let me tell you—it was worth every bite (and then some).
I arrived a little late (classic me), my friends had already settled in, but the staff welcomed me warmly and guided me to our table without fuss. The place was buzzing—full house, lively atmosphere, and yet not too loud. You can still have a proper conversation here (something rare for a busy steakhouse). A quick tip: make a reservation if you don’t want to risk missing out.
We kicked things off with a smooth glass of Pinotage wine 🍷—silky, rich, and dangerously easy to sip. One of my friends went adventurous and ordered game meat, medium rare, which looked like something out of a gourmet safari.
Me? I went straight for the Wagyu Ribeye, medium. And oh. my. goodness. This wasn’t just a steak—it was a spiritual experience. 🔥 The plate arrived hot, the meat perfectly tender, juicy, and dripping with its own buttery glaze. I barely touched my mashed potatoes because honestly, I was too busy sinking my teeth into what I can only describe as ten simultaneous food-gasms. 🥩✨ Every bite melted in my mouth, rich, smoky, and utterly unforgettable.
This is the first place in years where my steak came out both searing hot AND melt-in-your-mouth soft—a combination that’s harder to find than you’d think. By the time I looked at my plate, it was less a meal and more a battlefield of bliss.
A few extra notes for fellow diners: • The wine cellar is excellent and well-curated 🍷 • Seating is spacious and comfortable • The overall vibe is classy without being pretentious • The only tiny drawback? The toilets are outside the main space, so it takes away a bit from the exclusivity.
But honestly, when the steak is this good, who cares?
📍 If you’re in Joburg and you love steak, Trump’s Grillhouse is non-negotiable. This is, without question, one of the best meals I’ve had in the last decade. I’ll be back. No debate.
👉 My tip: order the Wagyu Ribeye medium, pair it with a bold Pinotage, and...

Read moreWe have been going to Trumps for 14years, I could swear one of our first dates was at Trumps-the lamb shank & salmon are to die for.Unfortunately today, 19 Jan 2024 was a bit of an awkward experience. Our sons 8 and 12 yo were playing close to the entrance when one of the hostesses approached them in a rather condescending manner to not play by the entrance. My husband then responded to her that she shouldn’t intimidate them and as such they should play where we can see them. 10minutes later the hostess comes to our table to which my husband expressed he didnt like her approach; he asked her if we should leave because our kids are not allowed to play, she said we could pay then leave (we had already paid our nice bill and were finishing our drinks, this she clearly didnt know nor bothered to find out) they went back and forth and my husband said he wasnt going to entertain the discussion as she wasnt listening to his point-she then says or rather threatens“next time I wont allow you to come here”. She then proceeds to get one of the managers; he doesnt come to us though, so once we finish the drinks my husband calls him and explains to him how disgusted he is with the hostesses lack of customer service. He does agree that her approach was wrong and proceeded to explain that the kids were playing by the entrance and perhaps it would be best that they play not too close to the entrance (was this too hard of an approach——approach the parents and not the kids, period). Thank you to the manager, big brown fella unfortunately I didnt get his name, but he clearly knows his job. I didnt get the ladys/hostesses name either however I noted she wore an outfit marked hostess, had a medi petite frame and black/blondish braids. Madam hostess this is not how you treat repeat customers who write...
