I recently stayed at the Sandton Sun hotel for a business trip and unfortunately, I must say that it was not the best experience. While the hotel is a good business hotel, it had a lot of issues that made my stay less than ideal. As a result, I am giving it a 3-star rating. The first issue I encountered was that I had to change rooms three times before finally getting one that was in good working order. The air conditioning in my initial room was not working properly and the room was very cold. The second room was located on a very low floor, which made it quite noisy. However, the third room was satisfactory and I was able to settle in comfortably.
One positive aspect of my stay was the selection of wines available at the hotel. They were of high quality and definitely added to my experience. Additionally, the Food and Beverage Manager was the standout employee of the hotel. He was extremely knowledgeable about his job and went above and beyond to make my stay more enjoyable.
However, overall, I was not impressed with the hotel. I was not happy with the fact that my client booked it for me, as I would not have chosen it myself. While the hotel is located next to a conference center, there was nothing special about my stay. It was a standard business hotel with a lot of problems that detracted from my experience.
In conclusion, while the Sandton Sun hotel has some positives, such as good wines and a knowledgeable Food and Beverage Manager, the issues I encountered during my stay detracted from my overall experience. The fact that I had to change rooms three times before finding one that was satisfactory was frustrating, and the hotel was not able to provide a more enjoyable stay. If you are looking for a business hotel in the area, I would suggest considering other options before choosing the...
Read moreExtremely bad experience because of 2 incidents:
On 1 of the days of our stay, housekeeping came in the morning around 9ish am when we were just leaving. Went for our tour and came back in the afternoon, wanting to rest for abit before going out, but instead I had to call housekeeping as our room was left halfway done with all the bed sheets and pillow cases taken out. No rest at all.
Turns out, they said the person cleaning our room had to do something on another room. That is really a very bad excuse since it was left halfway done for 4-5 hours.
Only when I called them to ask about it, then they decided to ask someone to finish up on our room and they were surprised why it took so long? By then, it was after 4-5 hours since housekeeping came in at around 9am. So nobody checked/informed whether the room was done or not?
If I had not gone out, I'll have to wait or call for someone else to finish up on cleaning the room with the bedsheets off?
If I had came back at night, exhausted and all, and still had to call them to finish up, I would be very upset.
Extremely bad experience on this part and deserving of 0 stars
And on another day during breakfast, we saw the service staff ushered in 1 guy to sit at a table, this same guy went to take food from the buffet spread and came back to see his table has been taken. Turns out, they had directed another group to sit at the 1st guy's table because they thought it was empty. Shouldnt there be some indication of some sorts by their own staff that the table is occupied? Horrible experience for the poor guy, saw him walking around for a bit with a plate full of food trying to find a seat.
Otherwise: Breakfast is very good. Room is spacious and clean. Good view of the city. Good...
Read moreThe 5 star Sandton Sun doesn't disappoint. As soon as you enter the reception area you are met by the kind of opulent splendour you'd expect from such a prestigious hotel situated in the country's most expensive per square metre soil.
The staff are attentive to your needs, polite and friendly. Entering the bar area is breathtaking and your eyes are immediately drawn upwards towards the ceiling to which the Towering Inferno replica lifts are travelling to and from. A most impressive chandelier resembling a shower head with water falling from it cascades down the centre of the huge open space providing a stunning centrepiece.
Everything is top quality and modern and leaves you feeling convinced this is the most luxury you have ever experienced.
Our room on the 17th floor (room 1708) was an odd shape as it was on the corner of the building but the spectacular views in multi directions from the floor to ceiling windows made up for it. The bed was massive and ultra comfortable and the blackout curtains ensured a great night's sleep. The bathroom was gorgeous with a very spacious power shower however the double ended bath was far too small for the two of us.. Everyting was there that we needed except there was only enough milk for us to have one cup of tea or coffee each.
The breakfast experience: Superb ultra fast and friendly service and amazing choice of food including smoked salmon, kippers and the usual cereals and full English etc, etc.
To conclude: To stay in a hotel of this standard would cost three times more in somewhere like London so in my opinion it was great value. We only stayed one night but left feeling well rested, pampered and appreciated and very satisfied therefore I would definitely recommend...
