Wimpy — Restaurant in George

We wanted to enjoy a last breakfast before heading back home, and decided on Wimpy Hartenbos. Once we've arrived, we noticed it was busy, which is perfectly fine. The host guided us to a table in the corner outside. Once we've paged through the menu, which took about 10 minutes, we waited patiently. We've also worked in the service industry, and know how hard it could be to juggle many tables, especially if you're only a handful of waiters. We noticed other patrons being seated and waited upon, even though they arrived after us. My partner stood up to head to the reception desk and remind them we were waiting. The person behind the desk (the host who originally seated us) reassured us that our waiter is on her way.

15 minutes later, we were still waiting, watching other patrons arrive, be seated and waited upon. We noticed the waiters looming at us, but never approaching us. We stood up, placed our menus back into the menu rack, and my partner went to inform the host of our issue and that we were leaving. The host told us that we should understand they're busy and that we decided to sit in the ghost seats, so service wouldn't be likely, or would assisted slower.

If it wasn't for this snide remark, I wouldn't be leaving a review at all. We went to another restaurant where service was swift...

I love Wimpy's menu because it has a wide variety of tasty food and the prices are reasonable. But the only problem I have, is the service. Or should I say, lack there of. It has happened more than once that we arrive an hour/ 40 minutes before closing time but then get refused service at the door. A waiter will stop us and not even greet, but instead start out with "We are closed, only takeaways." So we agree to takeaways and ask if we can sit down for a milkshake while we wait. The answer; "No milkshakes. The machine has been turned off and is being cleaned." An hour before closing time. One time we were even refused takeaways. The attitude of the staff also bothered us. Today I was really disappointed in the service received. My waitress did not come to take my order until I waved to her, my solution after nearly sitting 6 min. Please note the restaurant is not busy. Only 4 tables are occupied. When I was about to get up to place my 2nd order, note I put my cup on the far end of the table to indicate I am finished, she again did not come around for quite a while. When I told her she is way to scarce to assist, she was quite abrupt. The coffee and milkshake was great as always, but service terrible! Glass sitting on edge of table again.
