Some dishes are good and some are not to my taste. It is not authentic Thai food but more fusion cuisine to suit the Durban palate (maybe). There is a lot of sugar added into the dishes. Flavours really not balanced and I don't get the taste of real Thai food . The Tom Yum definately needed to be more spicier and was more like tom yum kha without the spicyness and all the coconut milk, the curries are like cream soup and the pancakes for the duck are like roti. I like the steam fish, wok box beach salad..without the crispy spinach, but if you are not on a diet then you should have it with the deep fried spinach. The wok dishes are okay... the black bean option was more like watery soup of seasoning sauce and no different to the sweet basil option except it didn't have the basil of course l. Actually it looked disgusting and watery. I do not think the bar next door make the dim sum fresh, and rather that they are purchased from the local chinese supermarket. I have traveled to many asian countries and lived in them too , so for me ...Overall, the food is okay but would not even suffice in Asia . Btw ... it is not yakitori bar, it is 'izakaya' ... yes lots of fusion and confusion...
Read moreBy far, the best Thai restaurant in Durbs! With a tantalizing infusion menu and a creative flare of flavors, this is one restaurant you have to try out, enjoy, and repeat! It's the first stop I make each time I'm in Durban. I’ve been following Sean and his wife since arriving from Kelowna, Canada into Durban back in 2006, my wife and friends enjoy their food immensely.
The ‘Wok Box Beach Salad’ is my personal favorite, with an addition of extra fish sauce and chili’s on the side, a true boost for those liking the savory side and an explosion of flavor, I can taste it aleady! The Massaman Curry is spectacular, a scoop of curry and a dollop of rice and POW! It’s bursting with a life that will keep your taste buds dancing for more.
So take it from a foreigner that has been to Thailand, ate the food, and spends mucho time in Durban each year, the primo spot for Thai cuisine, I highly recommend this casual and friendly dinning experience, enjoy
Don’t forget to enjoy a ‘Singha’ Thai beer or two,...
Read moreFood: Spring rolls as starters were delicious and crispy on the outside. The sauce complimented the spring rolls well. However, the mains were a huge let down due to the raw carrots and terrible sweet and sour sauce that was not sour at all, but rather intensely sweet. We had to remove all protein and dab the sauce off in order to make it edible.
Service: Absolutely appalling. Each time I needed to order something, I had to get up and go find a waiter. The only time the waiter came was to collect the food and bill. In addition, when I complained about the sauce I did not receive an apology but was rather met with an “okay”.
Atmosphere: It did not feel like I was sitting in a Thai / Asian restaurant. The visual appeal displayed on google differed from what I saw with my own eyes. The live music from the restaurant next door was...
