I recently took my children to Mugg & Bean while I attended a meeting at a nearby table. My 8 year old who usually enjoys ribs ordered them again as it's one of his favourite meals. My other child ordered a burger. Unfortunately, the ribs tasted undercooked to my 8-year-old, and after a few bites, he set them aside. The children ended up sharing the burger instead.
Once my meeting was over, I shared this feedback with our waitress. A manager was then called over. He mentioned that the children had been asked earlier if everything was fine, and they had said yes. I explained that my kids are young and unlikely to raise a complaint on their own, even if something isn’t right—especially to an adult they don’t know.
Instead of offering assistance or a solution, the manager focused on explaining how the ribs are prepared, stating they’re not cooked for too long because some customers complain when they’re overdone. I found this response disappointing. The issue wasn’t how the ribs are usually prepared, but rather that in this case, they were clearly not enjoyed or eaten at all.
It saddened me that the initial reaction wasn’t to assist or acknowledge the concern, but to defend the cooking method. This is a brand my children have always enjoyed, and I truly hope this experience was just an isolated incident. Better care and sensitivity—especially when children are involved—would go a long way in upholding the warmth and service Mugg & Bean...
Read moreOverall, I am a regular at many Mugg & Bean restaurants all over the country and enjoy the Rancheros breakfast the most. On this visit on 29 October 2024, I decided to switch things up and ordered the "HEARTY GRILL BREAKFAST (new) BBQ basted 100g rump, back bacon, a pork banger, two eggs, a hash brown, grilled tomato & herbed mushrooms. 169 | 5157 kJ"
To my disappointment, the steak was tough and not nearly the size depicted on the illustration. The hashbrown was oily, and the pork banger was burnt on the outside and underdone on the inside. The only thing edible was the mushrooms(barely) and the sourdough bread. See the picture attached of what I got vs. the picture on the menu and then tell me if I am overreacting. With a price tag of R169.00, this is shameful.
For a restaurant with a good reputation, at least try and match the illustration when presenting food to a customer. Upon complaining to the manager, he offered me a free coffee. The Capachino and cream I had with the meal tasted like a regular filter coffee with cream on top. I am disappointed in Cradlestone, to...
